Whoever you are, wherever you are, your family history is guaranteed to have some interesting facts, which will give you an idea from where your roots first grew.
In my mind, what makes family research interesting is the fact that, although we all descend from a Mother and Father, we are all still individuals and different to one and other, even from your same bloodline, this makes everyone unique and interesting.
“Up your trunk”, is based on an idea I had one day, whilst researching my father-in-law’s family, having not been satisfied with tracing my male side, (the Bunyan’s back to the early 16th Century, which I have been researching over the past 11 years) I also felt, the need to delve into my mother’s family too).
What will achieve by reading "Up your Trunk", is how my own personnel experiences, have helped me progress and lead me to a new foundation of knowledge as to where my Ancestors came from.
What I have included is some of my own research findings and how I went about finding them, starting from my Great-Grandparents.
Family research is an ideal hobby, however you decide to do it, whether on a full time basis, or “pick up and drop” when you feel like, which is more the normal approach anyway.
You will find that once you’re back to your Great Grandparents, just
how different life was. You have now started your journey, which will eventually
start building a whole New World around you, in which you and your family
play a part of.
You maybe hoping there is Royal blood or that your Great, Great, Great Ancestor was an Inventor or was a highly decorated Soldier that fought in various wars. They may have even married out of wedlock, been Murderers, Highwaymen or just a hard working Farmer's etc.
Whatever your dream of finding, you will always be guaranteed that your
hobby is an endless, life long
Journey and that you will experience different emotions ranging from excitement
to sadness.
It’s also the chance of making many new friends, finding lost or distant
family from all over the world (as I have), and to build a bigger picture
of your existence!
So where do you start? Here! by buying this, I would also recommend after this that you read other peoples personal family experiences and also purchase or borrow other related books on family research and genealogy.
