The "Bunyan's Of Melrose" is an account of the Bunyan family, that is believed to have came to Scotland, in or around the 13th and 14th Centuries, from France.I believe the first members of my family along with the Mein family from Lyon France (pronounced Main or Mane) may have been brought across by King David 1st to Newstead, to help build or re-build Melrose Abbey. In 1564 a Thomas Bonze, was granted 8 acres of land and parts of Newstead town, by the Monks of Melrose, under the permission of Micheal Commendantor of the Monastry. This was for kindness, support, services, help and good deeds carried out during troublesome times. (Melrose Regality Records Vol III 1547-1706) The earliest recorded reference I have found relating to the family name in George F. Black's “The Surnames of Scotland” Is David Bunyhe, pronounced: Bunyea or Boonyee who resided in Edinburgh around 1517 has been recorded. Although the most noted Bunyan’s dating around 1645, descend from the Scottish Borders, mainly hamlets and parishes of: Newstead, Melrose, Ancrum, Bowden, Bedrule, Cavers, Hawick, Jedburgh, Minto, and Wilton. My account begins with an introduction on historic Melrose and its Abbey, where many of the Bunyan's later settled, there is reference to the descendants of Thomas Bonze, with family tree and profiles on the main Bunyan branch. There is also additional information relating to Bunyan's that have emigrated to other countries, like the USA and Australia. There is also an index of all family members connected with the Bunyan family. Cd-Rom in PDF format, Priced at £6.99 Per Copy
