The First Bunyan's. Cistercian Monk's?
I believe the first Bunyan's came to the Scottish Borders in or around the 11th or 12th centuries, possibly in the form of Cistercian monks to help build Melrose Abbey. The first Cistercian Abbey built in England was Rievaulx Abbey (Yorkshire), founded 1132 by the "white monks" from Clairvaux in France. It was King David 1st of Scotland that requested the monks of Rievaulx, to build a daughter house to Rievaulx Abbey in Melrose. Melrose Abbey was the first Cistercian Abbey to be built in Scotland in 1136.
