Hi I'm Laurie. This is a full-size R2-D2 (originally static, now motorised) radio control model.
Weight 27Kg, height 40 inches, head diameter 19.5 inches.
He rotates and moves forward/reverse under 2 channel radio control. All batteries and a charger included.
Great potential for shows and promo events but use with adult supervision.

Here is the finished article as he is now, moving in my kitchen. You also get to see the control systems.
More detail on the control systems (latest video).
With his front holographic projector eye glowing red. When you make a clapping sound, it glows.

These are the original shots below, as he was first delivered. I changed his eye and motorised him.

| His head tilts open to reveal a storage area. I will leave this. His red eye glows when you clap your hands. | The Radar Eye has the wrong proportions. It is not wide enough. So I will work on that by using balsa and filler. NOTE: Feet slightly wider with motors added. |

Made from a strong wooden frame and leg struts, and covered in a card-like material that works very well and makes it very light.
Certain areas are filled with polystyrene for strength. He is only 27kg and normally these weigh in at 50 to 80kg.
A top notch fully functional R2 with projectors, arms and a middle working leg can cost £5,000 to £10,000 so he is set at a very reasonable price.

Making him move
In Sept 2010 we motorised him. He now weighs 27.2 kilos (60 pounds).
His feet got a bit wider too. I think all that is perhaps needed now is for
some sounds and a rotating head. If someone wanted to do that. I would add a 'boombox' (search eBay).

I bought him for £350 as a static model in early 2009. Since then I have motorised him and made him radio control.
I was thinking of making him into a cartoon Clone Wars version perhaps?
