Steven Aitken (1/8/96
to 28/6/01 2003?)
Steven was at Morton
as a youngster and his hard tackling and tenacity
in midfield saw him work his way up to a regular in
the first team.
He is a player who 'gets stuck in' and never shirks
from a tackle.
At one point he was the longest serving player at
Cappielow but left during the administration period
to join Stranraer.
Many feel he commanded the game for Stranraer against
the Ton in a cup game earlier in the season.
It is rumoured at the time of writing that Steven
may be on his way back to the Ton.
Harry
Curran (13/3/98 to 1/7/01)
Harry was a player who brought
a lot of experience to Cappielow having played with
St Johnstone and Dunfermline for many years. He was
signed by Billy Stark.
His experience showed and his effort was unquestioned
and he quickly became a favourite of the fans.
Harry is currently at Stranraer
but didnt feature in the cup game earlier in the season.
Derek
Lilley (13/8/91 to 27/3/97)
Derek was one of the
best forwards to have played at Morton in recent years.
A big, powerful player he scored 70 goals for Morton
in competitive fixtures. This included the 94/95 second
division winning season which saw him that leagues
top scorer that year.
He moved from the Ton for a fee
around the £500,000 mark to Leeds United in
March 97 but didnt really make the breakthough he
would have hoped with only 4 first team starts. After
loan spells at Hearts and Bury he found himself at
Oxford. He returned to Scotland in December 2000 to
join Dundee United but is rumoured to be on the move
again.
David
Wylie ()
Davie "The Cat" Wylie
was another favourite at Cappielow as the resident
goalkeeper for most of the late 80s and 90s. An everpresent
he was a fine agile shot stopper who instilled confidence
in the team.
Throughout his time at cappielow
he played in teams with players such as Rowan Alexander,
Derek McInnes and Janne Lindberg and enjoyed success
as the second division champions in 94/95 as well
as the near miss of the following year where he was
replaced by Andre Boe, who let in 8 goals in 2 games
, the Ton losing out on goal difference that year-
but thats a different story!
He left for Clyde after being replaced
by Ally Maxwell and was on the end of a 6-1 defeat
on a return to Cappielow to face Morton in a cup game.
Today he has joined Rowan Alexander as goalkeeping
coach at Gretna.
