Airdrie United are the reincarnation of Airdrieonians FC who went bust in 2002 only to replace Clydebank FC in the Scottish League. Many fans feel for the way the old Airdrie was allowed to be dragged down and closed and I'm sure fans of our own club can sympathise, however the way in which the club regained its place in the league leaves some with a bitter taste.

No true football fan wants to see another club go to the wall ,especially a Ton fan, and ultimately that is what happened to Clydebank.

Anyway to Airdrie Utd, the club was admitted to division two last season and many diamond fans were hoping for an immediate return to the first division. That wasn't to happen though as they were pipped to the second promotion place on the last day of the season by Brechin.

They have experienced players like Kenny Black and  Jerome Vareille in in their squad, the later scoring 19 goals last season, and will probably be one of the favourites for the coming season.

Stadium

Airdrie utd play at The Shyberry Excelsior stadium (thought by many to sound more like an hotel), a modern all seated stadium opened in August 1998. It comprises of four stands, the main one the Jack Dalziel stand named after a former chairman, being the largest.

The facilities as expected from these new grounds are excellent, but the atmosphere at such grounds is, by many, seemed to be non existant. This is especially the case if only two opposing stands are open.
