A memory sent in by Bruce Pritchard ..
of Sapper Terry Allchin
As remembered, 2 troop made its contribution along with 3 and HQ and a special memory of Terry Allchin of 1 Troop who made the biggest sacrafice.
Regards.Bruce Pritchard
60 Squadron Royal Engineers handed over to 50 sqn in Sept 67. Started in Little Aden then onto Aden, 3 troop with Para’s in Sheik Othman. 1 Troop Up country Dhala road and 2 troop attached to Argyl's in Crater. Sapper Allchin of 1 troop Killed up Country 1967.
I was one of Terry's best mates, having first met at Gillingham barracks when we were both on support troop 1965 or 66. Before going to Aden a couple of us Mick Jones, geordie Mckenzie and me, left some of our gear in his married quarters. He was a smashing lad and I always remember him every June, the month he was killed. Half of one troop were sent up to Dhala to build a water tank, ( the half I was in ) and he was killed while we were up there. I can still remember Lt Freeman one troops officer coming up to tell us. A few weeks later we were back and working at the exact spot where it happened. regards
