CHELSEA COTTAGE
The cottage is very peacefully situated in a row of terraced cottages behind those actually on South Street - so there is almost no traffic noise. The cottage is on a steep hill and faces south-east. From the living-room, conservatory, front bedroom and garden there is a panoramic uninterrupted sea view over the Channel. There is on-street parking on South Street and other nearby streets.
The main Ventnor shops are about five minutes' walk away, though the Library, nearest general store with newsagent are only a couple of minutes away on the High Street. It takes about 15 minutes to walk to Ventnor beach and about the same time to Bonchurch beach: from both these beaches there is good and safe bathing. There are delightful walks from Ventnor through the wooded landslip to Shanklin, along the coastal path towards St Catherine's Point, and up to St Boniface Down (the highest point on the Island, which shelters Ventnor from cold northerly winds). Ventnor is well served by buses to all parts of the Island: there are regular bus services from Ryde Esplanade station and Shanklin station which stop close to the cottage (ask for Ventnor Library), so that it is easy to travel by train and bus if preferred.

The very secluded terraced lower garden (easy access via a gated metal staircase) has a garden seat and rotary clothes drier, but although this area is screened by mature shrubs, it is not completely fenced in, and therefore its use is entirely at your own risk, and we recommend it is not used by young children.
The house is double-glazed and is carpeted throughout.
We feel we should point out that the stairs are quite steep and not ideal for the very elderly or the infirm, although there is a handrail. Two safety gates for children are provided for the stairs.
Heating:
electric fires in dining room and living room, electric heaters in kitchen and
bedrooms, wall fan heater in bathroom. Two fireguards are supplied. The
water is heated by an immersion heater in the bathroom, which is connected to
a timeswitch and may be set as required. An air-cooling fan is also
provided.
Other equipment provided: duvets, pillows, tea towels, hot water bottles, and a selection of board games, cards, books, etc.
Note: We prefer guests to bring their own bed and cot linen unless this is very inconvenient, in which case we may be able to make special arrangements, but do need to charge extra for the laundering.
