It can be very disturbing to be told your baby was a blighted ovum.
It simply means that there is tissue and pregnancy fluid in
the womb, but no baby. The baby would have been there but
it died very early in pregnancy and was reabsorbed by your
body. A blighted ovum is normally found between 8 and 11 weeks
when you have your first scan. However just because your baby
is no longer there, it does not make your loss any easier.
You have still lost a baby.
If you need any further information please speak top your doctor.
The Miscarriage Association also produces a leaflet on a blighted
ovum.
