Dear friends

On the day of Pentecost the Holy Spirit gave life to the Church of Jesus Christ.

‘All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit
and began to speak in other languages,
as the Spirit gave them ability.’
Acts 2:4

The Holy Spirit enabled the believers to praise God in new ways.

The believers were filled with the Holy Spirit and they were able to speak in other languages. The Holy Spirit equips us to worship God in new and relevant ways.

The Holy Spirit enabled the believers to proclaim their faith.

Peter was able to preach about Jesus to a crowd of onlookers. He urged them to accept that Jesus was the Son of God, with the result that some three thousand people became believers. The church was raised to proclaim the gospel in word and deed.

The Holy Spirit enabled the believers to witness to others.

From the day of Pentecost the first Christians shared their faith with everyone. The book of Acts tells us how the first believers witnessed to God’s love. That task of witnessing is the ongoing task of the church today.

I believe that the gift of the Holy Spirit is for today.

Are you willing to pray this prayer:

Holy Spirit fill me with your power to praise the name of Jesus.
Holy Spirit fill me with the ability to proclaim my faith.
Holy Spirit fill me with wisdom to know when to witness for my faith.
Amen.

If we are open to the Holy Spirit our worship and our faithful witness will be enriched.
