SUMMER NEWS
Well this is it, the last half term of the year! It’s a half term of mixed emotions, for some children it’s goodbye as they move onto ‘big' school, but we are saying hello to new children. It’s not only children who are moving, Lucy is going to university in September. We will miss her, but not as much as her Mum (Maggie) will, Lucy is the youngest in the family so we offer Maggie our support as well as wishing Lucy all the best. the other person we will have to say cheerio to is Hannah. If you haven’t noticed her expanding waist line, it’s not that she is trying to keep Weight watchers in business, she’s expecting her own little bundle of joy in October! So her goodbye is only temporary, which brings me to another situation, we will have a job vacancy to cover maternity leave, starting in September for at least the Autumn term, but we could have a more permanent position for the right person. If you are interested please see Christine as soon as possible, the pay isn't very good but the working conditions are brill! All you need is a sense of humour, training available. We also welcome Jean this half term to our staff team, ultimately she is taking Lucy’s position for September but she is starting now as an extra staff member to enable us to take some children off the waiting list for the half term, this will enable both Jean and these new children to be fairly settled by September. Jean is Mum to Amy as well as having a big boy at Prince Henry’s and is looking forward to meeting everyone as she joins the team.
Now is a good time ( if you Know) to let us know your plans for September. We need to know which school your child is going to so we can exchange information with their new teachers.
If your child will be 3 years old by the 31st August 2007 they will be entitled to the 15 hours of free Nursery education . This is available at this setting. It’s also a good time to tell us what days you would like, especially if they are different to what you have had this term.
Asquith Show. 9th June- scarecrow competition. (See the schedule)
Coffee morning. 15th June- need baking to sell & some helpers to run the morning. Guess the name of the Teddy game. If you can get the ball rolling by selling to friends, neighbours or work colleagues that would be great.
Carnival. 16th June- pot smashing stall & lucky dip.
Fathers day. 17th June- treat him nicely!
Watch out for the sale of children’s clothes. Angela Jackson is arranging the sale of all new- ex-catalogue clothing at reasonable prices just right for the summer holidays!
These fund raising events are for our outside garden/play area. We’re about half way with our fund raising. If you have contacts with any organisation who will do matched funding let us know.
Advanced notice of Otley Folk Festival 22nd September 2007. This is one of our major fund raising events of the year, selling refreshments to the audience. The staff give their own time to do this event & the festival goers expect home made food! So you need to be ready to do baking.
Theme for the half term
I think I’ve just got space to tell you what to expect the rest of the term! It’s baking to start with, we will be using a variety of different techniques, such as creaming and rubbing in, we will also be making savoury as well as sweet things, so this is a good time to remind us if your child has any allergies etc. Towards the end of the term we will be talking to the children about keeping themselves safe, just simple things like make sure you hold hands, it’s a good time with holidays round the corner. Then the last week of term will be our infamous seaside week with lots of sand & water. So the children will all need swim wear and towel each day.
