My Chevin Cross memories Mrs P J Hobson, Otley |
|
My memory of the Chevin Cross dates back to 1969, the 29th March, the day my husband and I got married. It was a Saturday – Canon Clayton was to marry us at 11 o’clock in the morning. Weeks before in his prep talks, he would always say that if I (the bride) were late then he would not marry us. On the morning of our wedding he went, along with a party of other people, to the Chevin to put up the Cross for Easter and forgot about our wedding. Upon arriving at the Parish Church I found I could not get married as there was no Vicar! I was not late, nor was the bridegroom, but the Vicar. He finally arrived 15 minutes late with 2 inches of mud on his shoes – his excuse was he had forgotten to look in his diary. We will celebrate 40 years of marriage in 2009. |
