My Chevin Cross memories

Elizabeth R Bamfield (nee Hall), Devon

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ

Despite now living in Devon I was a member of Menston Methodist Church for a number of years and have some very happy memories of the Chevin Cross, which I will come to shortly. I was delighted to hear that, once again, it will be raised and long may it continue to do so. I wish you well in your attempt to create a memory book and look forward to reading it.

You will find my memories as follows:

The walk between Menston village and the Cross helps to remind me of the pain and suffering that Christ himself went through in that first Holy Week. Especially when you walk up for the 7 am service!

The views over the Wharfe Valley and the return can be somewhat dramatic and help to remind you of what a wonderful creative Lord we serve.

I have also very happy memories of celebrating that “great and glorious Easter morn” with Rev. David Woodward encouraging us to drown out the first flight departure from Leeds/Bradford Airport with “Christ the Lord is risen today”, sung with such gusto that the passengers must have heard us.

Long may the Cross be erected as from Otley Town Centre it provides a very powerful witness.

With every blessing,

Elizabeth R Bamfield
