Barry Wanderers C.C. 2nd XI -v- Ewenny / Corntown C.C. 2nd XI
Saturday 16th June 2002.

On Saturday the Wanderers played Ewenny / Corntown in the East Wales Conference League on an overcast afternoon.

The Wanderers lost the toss and were put in to bat by the visitors. The top order failed to produce a big score against the very accurate bowling attack and were soon in trouble. The Wanderers luck did not improve as the in form Gareth Lanagan took a nasty blow to the head forcing him to retire hurt, and have receive medical checks. With Chris Barnes and Peter Coleman now at the crease, and toiling to trying to produce some stability to the innings, hope remained that the side could produce a decent total. The Ewenny attack however took full advantage of the prevailing weather conditions, and after a short break for a rain interuption soon had the Wanderers in trouble again and reduce the final total to 118.

The Wanderers bowling attack began well with a wicket in the first over, however, backed up by a lacklustre fielding performance, the Wanderers appeared as if their enthusiasm for the game had disappeared. J Rees proceeded to score quick runs, and with a further break due to another downpour, Ewenny wrapped up the match with six wickets and plenty of overs to spare.

The result of this match reversed last year's result and was the first defeat for the Wanderers in the league this season. Gareth Lanagan came through medical checks with no serious injury noted.
