THIS PAGE STARTED ON THE 13TH November 2004
Will recently did a tv programme about Runaway kids. And how every year 100,000 kids run away each year and end up on the streets due to only ONE refgues home for in the whole on the country in England.
This promgram was a hard hitting documentry, and it brought loads of Will Young fans to get something done about this as the refgue place could be shut down because the lack of funding.
On the Will Young board they have set up a pertition to sign (click here to sign the pertition). And then it will be given to our Prime Minster Tony Blair (of the UK).
Here are some Will Young Pictures from Runaway programme
THANKYOU TO SHELIA FROM THE WILL YOUNG BOARD FOR THESE PICTURES :-) Will Young Gives Runaways Campaign A Boost Pop Idol Will Young has given The Children's Society's runaways campaign a boost by signing the charity's Big Safe & Sound Sign Up petition and is urging others to follow suit. Will Young says: "I was shocked when I learnt that nearly 100,000 UK children runaway each year. It's hard to imagine the desperation so many children must feel forcing them to run away into the unknown. I urge everyone to take the simple step of signing The Children's Society Safe & Sound petition. The simple act of putting your name on a petition will highlight the plight of children at risk on the streets today and in the future." The chart-topping singer decided to back the campaign while filming a BBC One TV documentary called Runaways. The special one-hour documentary presented by Will Young highlights the plight of the UK's 100,000 children who run away from home or care each year. It is due to be broadcast on Wednesday 10 November (2004) at 10.35pm to mark the 25th anniversary of BBC Children in Need. It includes interviews with Penny Dean, The Children's Society's director of policy and a mother whose 12-year-old daughter stopped running away after she received help from one of the charity's projects. The Children's Society hopes the BBC documentary will encourage viewers to sign its petition calling on the Government to set up a national network of refuges to protect runaway children and provide them with local support. In the TV documentary, troubled Eccles teenager Stacey Coulter explains what happened when she ran away from home and slept rough in fields near tramlines without food, shelter or money. Her desperate mother Elaine Coulter describes how she searched the streets, parks and dark back alleys trying to find her daughter who she feared had been hurt or murdered. Elaine Coulter says: "The Children's Society's project saved Stacey's life. The project workers were kind and understanding and I felt for the first time that someone listened and understood what help my family needed." The campaign is also backed by 24 bishops who are encouraging congregations across the country to hold a Sign Up Sunday in November to help gather signatures for the Safe & Sound petition. The Children's Society hopes to meet its target of 100,000 – one for every child who runs away each year. Article taken from Children's Society website TO SIGN THE PERTITION HERE
