Hello,
I am Hannah, and welcome to Silverstone testing page 24th June 2008.
This year I took my photography buddy Alison along with me for all three days, again as usual I'd drive up to the track everyday as I have done since 2005..
We were aiming to leave the house at 8am.. but it was more like 8.15am...
we arrived at the circuit at 10 ish.. and we could hear the cars out on the track...
After a quick pit stop to the toilets we headed for the pit straight.. but they'd got it closed off this year, however they had the luffield A complex open right down to Abbey.. where Abbey is uaually closed.
For me this year was goinng to be exciting, as the previous years I'd taken along my HP R717 digital camera, or my dads Kadak digital camera... but this year I was armed the my Canon G9 powershot camera, as well as my Canon 450D SLR camera... and was impressed with my Silverstone Grand Prix pics taken on my HP, that I knew my 450D SLR would be even better...
We started off my sitting in the Luffield A complex, trying out verious camera settings, I was just snapping away, but Alison wasn't happy with her settings, and decided to take off her UV filer... and it worked better!!!
after about an hour there we moved to Abbey, trying to shoot the cars coming fast out of the Abbey chicane.. the trick is to manually focus the camera onto the car, and blur out the fence as best as possible... which I was finding tricky as I had a handrail right at my height.. so I snuck under it!, but I still wasn't happy... so we then headed to the top of the open Abbey stands, which was perfect..except I then decided to fall in love with one of the megaspeakers and snapping it in my panning shot.. so we shuffled along a little.. walla.. snap happy..
We did notice Mark Webber cutting the Abbey chicane on several occasions..
We could also see other racing cars on the smaller track of the circut, as well as helecopters coming and going from the field..
It was great, the sun was shining, all ten teams were there, and one driver from each team testing, all size cameras appeared.. we did get a few looks as if to say "female photographers"!!! and the spectators were out mingling about and having a laugh.. but all to soon, it was 1pm... lunchtime..
So we headed back to the car to look through our pictures and to have some lunch...
Back in the car, we chatted over our pictures, and Alison was telling me about how my cars were looking 'static'.. I didn't fully understand, but I had to delete alot of rubbish shots as I'd already taken about 700!
Once we ate our lunch, we head back to the track, Afternoon practice started at 2pm, but we got back to the Abbey chicane about 2:30pm, we carried on trying to improve our snaps, we stood in our favourite spot at the top of the uncovered Abbey chicane stand, and eventualy moved to the right, and stood on a bank of grass, before sitting down on it, when people moved away.. and then it stared to get a bit nippy espically as a red flag came out.. so Alison went and grabbed herself a cuppa coffee.
We decided to stay at Abbey chicane for the rest of the day watching the cars go past, sometimes a few would make an error and out comes the red flag, once for Massa's Ferrari, and for williams, and one five minutes before then end...
We also noticed when looking through our photos from that day, that ferrari one minute had a tall mast thing above the cockpit, and later on it was gone, then reappeared again.. it was bizzare!
Heres the testing time from that today:
