After going to Silverstone on Wednesday and it rained, Thursday was a dry nice day, and I felt gutted. So I decided I will go again Friday and on my own.
It was a challange for me, i've never driven long distances on my own including Motorways. But I knew I had to overcome that... so I did!
Silverstone free testing 3rd June 2005
By the time I got Petrol and some food, I left home at about 8:50am
The weather was sunny, but we were due rain later in the day.
I got to Silverstone about 10:15am, with no problems on getting there.
I was really excited, the cars were out on the track, and was proud of myself!
I was given my free ticket at the gate and made my way to the stands.
When I walked through the tunnel and a McLaren came past Kemi was in it, then I saw a Ferrari (it was Barrichello) and then a Williams.
As I was walking through the seating area after the Bridge corner, I was meant to phone dad to say I had arrived safely, but forgot to take his work phone number, so I phoned the Day Care centre, and got though to my boss... at the time all the 3 cars went past!
I then made a pit-stop myself (to the toilet) before heading to the Pit Straight stand, watching Barrichello and Williams doing laps round the track.
The weather today is much nicer than Wednesday, it's sunny with a breeze.
At 10:55am a Renault car went off the track somewhere, as the Pit lights went red. Once that was cleared, Williams, Renault, Red Bull, Toyota and McLaren were out on track. It was real, they are zooming round the track, with me trying to take pictures, which after Wednesday I've worked out how to time it right!.
But it didn't last as the was another accident at 11:15am.... so they all came into the pits to their garages.
After that was cleared, Toyota and McLaren were out with other drivers coming out every so often.
At 12 noon, I moved from the Pit Straight stands, to Luffield corner, watching Barrichello, Toyota, Williams, Red Bull and McLaren's Kimi.
I decided to take more pictures against the fence wire, of the drivers on the Luffield Corner. I got really good shots. After nearly an hour there, I was hungry and it was nearly lunchtime.
So went to duck under the barrier, thinking my head was clear of the metal pole.... Bang OUCH bashed the top of my head on the pole. I was OK, stunned myself, and it really hurt, but didn't knock myself out. Went back to the car for lunch rubbing my head!
Once inside my hot car, it started to rain, great the track will be wet and the cars won't do much testing this afternoon, but the rain stopped...
Morning Pictures
Anyway at 1:45pm just as I was leaving my car, it decided to rain a bit more, before it stopped again.
I decided to take a long walk, I walked all the way to Copse corner. (the first corner of track from the start/finish line)
at 2:15pm eventually car engines started up, and first out of the garage was Alonso for the Renualt team, then Kimi came out for the McLarens, then Williams and Red Bull, then Toyota.
Then after getting pics from Copse Corner, I moved into the pit straight stand where theres a roof, as it was spitting with rain again.
Here I got more shots of the cars going along the pit straight track, and some going in and out of the pits.
Eventually Barrichello came back out to join, Williams, McLaren, Toyota, Red Bull, Renault.
3:15pm came, although the testing goes of until 5pm, I decided to make my way back to the car, and drive home to avoid all the traffic on the motorways. So brought myself a coffee, and made my way to Luffield corner holding my coffee, where I watched a few more cars. As I was finishing my coffee, it started to spit with rain again, but this time it got heavy. So dashed over to the toilets before making my way to the car park.
The rain was very heavy and thundery, with lightning, the motorways were stop/start, with poor visibility due to the horrendous rain.
I missed the turning off the M1 (oops) to get onto the M25, so I carried on till I saw the Watford sign.
I finally got home at 6:15pm, where I dashed out of my car cos it was still raining, rang on the doorbell, David answered the door, with me pushing him out the way, dashing to the loo!.... Dad and David was having a bet that would be the first thing I would do!
I had a brilliant day, with an experience of a long distance driving with motorways.
And my head..... It had a big bump on top, but my Acupunturist sorted it out so i'm now fully recovered
Oh, and the picture of me, was taken at the end of the day, looking rather tired after all the driving and a little sunburnt + headache from my rather sore head!
