What does it feel like to be a young sportsman on the world stage, weighed down by the burden of the expectation of others? What pressures are created when your raw talent excites such dreams that anything other than ultimate achievement will be regarded as failure? Jenson Button has been winning motor races since he was eight years old, yet even he was surprised to find himself racing in Formula One only weeks after his 20th birthday. Thrust into the turbulent world of the ambitious BMW-Williams team as the rookie partner of world champion Michael Schumacher's promising brother Ralf, and already tagged by a hungry media as the next Ayrton Senna, he was going to sink without trace, or fight for his corner. This is a first-person account, not just of the British star's first season and the career which led him to such a dramatic opportunity, but also of the reasons his succeeding year demanded a switch to the Benetton-Renault team and how he fared. It puts the reader right alongside Button, in the cockpit or on the pit wall, as a young David taking on the established Goliaths, in a razor-sharp sport which takes no prisoners.
In 2004, Jenson Button became Britain's leading Formula 1 driver, securing third place in the driver's championship behind Ferrari's Schumacher and Barrichello, with a string of podium finishes, including four second places. Button has become a household name, and since his Formula 1 baptism with the Williams team in 2000, his tenacity and natural talent thave seen him grow in stature from starry-eyed 'new-boy' to No.1 driver at BAR-Honda. His actions on the track have marked him out as one of Formula 1's hottest properties, and potentially a future World Champion.
The book opens with an historical account of every racing decade from the early years of international and Grand Prix competition to the Formula One championships of the present day. Two separate A-Z guides of past and current teams and drivers are included from heroes to obscure bit-part players. Racetracks are also featured - even those that are no longer in use - with details of their history, design, development and golden years. An overview of driver/team statistics completes this no-nonsense guide to the fastest sport in the world. Illustrated on every page with colour photographs and original archive material, this is an essential guide to the world of Formula One Grand Prix racing.

*This book never was released on the 18th October 2006, and when I enquired in Waterstones about two different releases dates (and it showed it on their computer screens) they phone the Publishers (I guess thats who the bloke phoned), who comfirmed it has been pushed back a year -October 2007 (probably after Jenson's win in Hungary on the 6/8/06!) So maybe they are re-writing it?!?
