How I got into F1

This Site is all about F1, it used to have my 2005 season things, but found it hard to update, so I didn't start it up agian for the 2006 season.

What this website does contain is all my F1 related trips and things.

I got into F1 because my brother was a big fan, he had a number of websites, went to a lot of free testing at Silverstone and even a few Silverstone races, and watched nearly all the races.

Brother started to lose intrest in F1, handing over his website, but then I got interested in F1.
I know some people must think i'm mad, I'm a girl and likes F1... its a mans sport... NO ITS NOT!

I however became more interested in F1 when I went to Haynes Motor Museum and saw Michael Schumachers 1996 F1 car, You could sit in it for £10 or something and have a picture taken in it. Sadly when we got there, the last photoshoot was 5pm and had missed it. I was gutted the rest of the holiday, But on the last day of my holiday, dad sprung a surprise, and took me back and I got to sit in Michael's 1996 car.

My intrests grew further and further, and my brother kept telling me that one day he would take me to a free testing at Silverstone, that opertunity came on the 2nd June 2004, the first driver on the track was my favourite Michael, I couldn't take pictures I was shaking with excitement so the camera pics were down to my brother.

I went back to SIlverstone free testing the following year on the 1st June with my father as my brother got severly sunburnt and can't tolerate the sun anymore, I'd taken the whole 3 days off work but couldn't go on the 2nd June 2005 for a few reasons, and had no-one to go with on the 3rd June, but I was on a mission, to take myself up to Northamptionshire on my own, as i'd never gone on a motorway on my own or long distance before by myself. I'd done myself proud -except from hitting my head on a railing at Silverstone and giving myself a wapping headache!!

I went back to the Silverstone free testing for the 3rd year running on the 27th April 2006 and took my mate Samual as he'd wanted to come along

Now I've not only sat in Michael's 1996 f1 car, i've seen loads of drivers testing at Silverstone, and a few days ago I went to the Donington Grand Prix Collection, this really opened my eyes up, seeing all these F1 cars close up, they really are big.

You can see pictures and accounts of all my trips on the pages in the left hand frame, by clicking the "Silverstone testings" button, which brings down a sub menu, showing all the dates i've been to, and the same for "Other" -showing my Donnington page

Although speculation had been rife for a few weeks before, On the 10th September 2006, Michael Schumacher fans around the world, learned that he would be retiring at the end of the season, the last race being in Brazil on the 22nd October. However Ferrari had not ruled out that he would have some kind of job still with the Ferrari team. -He will now be helping with Ferrari road cars
But for me, it was a sad time, I was quite emotional, I got into liking F1 because of Michael, and now its the end of an era. I also won't forget my 22nd birthday on the 1st October 2006 -Michael won the Chinese GP, it really made my birthday, as Michael never had any luck at China!

Sadly Michael didn't win his 8th World championship, Alonso took it after an eventful Brazilian race, which saw Michael get a puncture, but Massa won the race in his country, and Jenson came 3rd :) and from last place after the punture, Michael bounded back to 4th place

And I can hear you thinking, what will happen when Michael retires, who will I support....

Well when I went to Silverstone for the free testing in 2006 and I was really taken back by our British Driver JENSON BUTTON, and ever since his won his first podium back at the Hungarian GP, on the 6th August.

The 2006 winter testing has been exciting and weird, Alonso's move to McLaren, Kimi's move to Ferrari, a few new faces, and the 2007 season will get underway on the 18th March in Austrailian Grand Prix from Melbourne, it's also going to be a year for the Brits(!), as we have four British Drivers this year: David Caulthard (Red Bull), Jenson Button :-D (Honda), Ant Davidson (Super Aguri), Lewis Hamilton (McLaren).
It would be nice to see at least one British driver up on the podium at Silverstone... Especially as I will be in attendance :D (first Grand Prix for me)

I've been to the three day testing at Silverstone (19th-21st June 2007), Over the next few weeks i'll get those pictures up as well as soon, Also I've added my page from Silverstone Grand Prix, with some Meet and Greet pictures of Jenson... Oh and I went to the Honda open day, where I met Christan Klien, Jenson (three times!!!) which is now up and running

Please note:
All my 2007 season stuff has now moved onto its own page, you will find in under f1 seasons in the left hand frame.

F1 Rule Changes for 2007 & 2008
  • Chasis
    -15% tougher crash tests
-New regulator to stop teams running illigal flexable rear wings

  • Warning Lights
Red (if the race has been stopped), Yellow (if their is an accident and Blue (if the driver is just about to be lapped) Cockpit lights that show on the steering wheel

  • Friday Testing
    - 3 hours of free practicing
    -No penalty for Engine change

  • Engine
    - Limited to 19,000 RPM
    - Design has been frozen until 2010

  • Tyres
-All teams run Bridgestone and teams have to run both the hard and the soft tyres in the race. The soft tyre will have special markings so we tell when the drivers are using them.

  • Safety Car
-As soon as the safety car is deployed your not allowed to pit for fuel, you are allowed to come in for tyres, which is a sefety measure incase you run over some debrie and pick up a punture. But if the driver does pit for fuel its a 10 sec penalty.
So until the pit lane sign opens it will mean the cars will queue up behind each team mate and resemble a busy petrol station

  • From Turkey GP, Drivers are not allowed to be hugged by their team until they have been weighed.
    From 2008:

  • Traction control to be banned again.
The controversial system was first banned in 1994 in a bid to prevent advances in technology removing driver skill, but was allowed back into the sport in 2001 when it was deemed too difficult for the FIA to find out if teams were cheating by getting round it somehow.

Purists have long complained that technology is taking the skill away from Formula 1, but with the FIA now able to monitor each car, traction control has been banned once again from next season in an attempt to again place driver skill over that of the machine.

  • Qualifying has now been changed: New
Domenicali reveals 2008 qualifying tweaks Fuel burn eliminated with shorter Q3 in 2008 20/12/07

More detail about the tweaks to F1's knockout qualifying format for 2008 have emerged.
It was revealed in September that the F1 'Sporting Working Group' had agreed to rid the sport of the controversial fuel-burning phenomenon, chiefly by reducing the time for the 'Q3' format from 15 minutes.
La Gazzetta dello Sport now quotes Ferrari team boss Stefano Domenicali as revealing more about the new format, which is believed to have been recently ratified by the World Motor Sport Council.
He said Q1 will now last for "20 minutes instead of 15", while Q2 remains at 15 minutes.

"Q3 becomes 10 minutes, instead of 15," Domenicali added, explaining that competitors will no longer be allowed to add fuel to their cars before the Grand Prix.

  • Engine freeze till 2010
There will be a total freeze on engine development for a period of 10 years, starting from 2008, an FIA statement said.

A change can be made after five years but only with the unanimous agreement of all stakeholders and following a further two-year notice period.

Total freeze means that there will be no exceptions for development of certain parts of the engine, as is the case under the current regulations.
