The 33-0 scoreline in favour of Llandovery at Llangennech suggests a hammering for the home side but the match was far from a one-sided affair.

''I thought that it was a very good game of rugby,'' said Llangennech chief Ieuan Howells. ''Llandovery took their chances at every opportunity but we didn't take ours.''
The Tywi Valley visitors crossed for five tries, four of which were converted by fly-half Andrew Webster. The try scoring was finished off by centres Emrys Evans and Arwel Davies, skipper and No.8 Ken Hughes, scrum-half Aled Jenkins and full-back Ioan Davies.

Penlan CC(2) H 27/1/07 W 29 - 12

Llandovery ended Penlan’s hopes of a league and cup double after last year’s league champions were dumped out of the Polypipe Challenge Cup following a 29-12 defeat.

Trailing 12-10 at the break, Llandovery booked their place in the semi-final draw with a performance that saw them cross the Penlan line on five occasions through flanker Ken Hughes, wings Dyfed Watkins and Gareth Augustus, No. 8 Dan Thomas and centre Aled Davies. Two of the tries were converted by fly-half Arwel Davies.

Penlan replied with tries by flanker Robbie Watkins and lock Richard Griffiths, one of which was converted by fly-half Steve Williams.

Llangadog L A 3/2/07 W 9 - 16 2

In a game that was described by both set of supporters as a credit to local rugby, Llandovery beat Llangadog 16-9 in the Tywi Valley derby. The game was keenly contested – at times ferociously – before the Drovers reserve side edged home.

Bitterly disappointed Llangadog player/coach, chairman and finance director Alun Davies was magnanimous in defeat. “We had our chances in a terrific late onslaught on the Llandovery line” said Davies, “but their defence was magnificent and we cannot complain”.

Tricky Llandovery centre Arwel Davies, brother of Drovers first teamer Ioan Davies, crossed for the only try of the game to help Llandovery into a 10-6 half-time lead. His try was converted by fly-half Andrew Webster, who also landed three penalties. The points for Llangadog came from three penalties by fly-half Adrian Williams, one of five former Drovers in the Llangadog line up.

Up 10-3 and with the pack on top, Llandovery pressed hard, No. 8 Daniel Thomas outstanding in the loose, but the Llangadog defence held firm. Only a determined and at time desperate Llandovery defence kept out the Red Kites in a rousing finale in front of a bumper crowd.

Bonymaen L A 17/2/07 L 17 - 5 3

Llandovery failed to stop Bonymaen taking another step towards the Polypipe Civils Championship title when coming second best in a match that was described by both coaches as a credit to the players on the park.

Needing only seven points from their remaining five league matches to clinch the title outright, Bonymaen turned on the style to produce one of the best matches seen at Parc Mawr this season, with Llandovery more than playing their part in the entertaining fixture. Bonymaen took the honours 17-5.

''It was full of running rugby by both sides,'' said Llandovery coach Geraint Williams. ''I know we lost, but the game was a credit to both teams.''

Prop Ricky James put Bonymaen ahead with a first-half try, converted by fly-half Andrew Cousins. And it was Cousins who put the result beyond doubt when converting his own try in the second half. Llandovery's only score came when flanker Emrys Evans powered his way over.

Rees added the conversion and Brynaman took a deserved 12-10 lead when wing Kiaran James crossed. Carmarthen Quins L A 9/12/06 Aband. 5 - 5 4

Flanker Adam Jones had scored for the Quins, with lock Daniel Oakley replying. It looks as if the game will have to be replayed even though there was less than five minutes to play.

Newcastle Emlyn L H 3/2/07 L 5 - 22 4
Injury-hit Welsh League Scarlets Region division A leaders Newcastle Emlyn showed rustiness after a three-week lay-off, but did enough to retain their unbeaten record.

Coach Tudor Harries did not know where to turn as he tried to put together a team and, with 10 players unavailable, he was left with only a bare 16.

Coming in for his first outing, lock Rhydian Williams, who has also been plagued by injuries, provided the power that has been missing from the scrum of late, and his engine-room colleague Luke Kendall provided ample support.

The visitors led by a solitary score after the opening 40 minutes. From third-phase possession the ball was spun out and full-back Gareth Davies came bursting into the line to cross for a cracking try.

After the break Emlyn flanker Gareth Jones scooped up a loose ball, drew his man and sent left wing Guto Crompton racing in for a try for fly-half Rhidian Harries to convert. Llandovery replied with a first-rate handling move that culminated in right wing Gareth Davies crossing for a try.
Harries increased the visitors' advantage with a penalty before completing the scoring with a superb score. When Llan lost the ball inside their opponents' 22, Harries won a kick-and-chase for a try that he converted.
