Penlan L A 4/9/04 L 34 - 18
The Athletic travelled to Penlan for their first game but were unfortunately unable to call on their full squad. Nevertheless they put up a good fight against  dogged and more streetwise opponents before they were finally beaten by 33-18. The team management would like to welcome former Youth players Deian Augustus, Celfyn Davies, David Thomas and Matthew Bailey to the ranks and wish them all the best for the season.

Penlan beat Llandovery after a rousing second half in which they scored four tries. Centre James Hill got two of them, the others falling to centre Robert Watkins and fly-half Steve Williams, who also kicked a conversion and four penalties. Llandovery crossed twice through wing Gareth Augustus and centre Deian Augustus. Full-back Rhys Davies kicked a conversion and two penalties.

Carmarthen Athletic L A 11/9/04 W 0 - 39
Llandovery bounced back from last week's defeat at Penlan with a 39-0 victory at Carmarthen Athletic.

"It was good to get some confidence back after last week's disappointment," said Llandovery boss Martin Davies.

Centre Deian Augustus crossed twice for the visitors, as did full-back Celfyn Davies, who added a drop goal and three conversions. Wing Gareth Augustus and flanker Glyn Davies were the other Llandovery try scorers.

Narberth L H 18/9/04 W 17 - 16
Narberth led 8-5 at half-time at Llandovery, but failed to hold on as the Drovers got the better of the second half to edge it 17-16.

Star of the show for Llandovery was fly-half Celfyn Davies who produced a try and four penalties.

No.8 Gareth Bennett and fly-half Wayne Jones scored for Narberth, with full-back Shane Higgon adding two penalties.

Try: Celfyn Davies; Pens: Celfyn Davies (4)
Llangadog L A 25/9/04 W 34 - 76
In what can only be described as one of the most remarkable matches in recent years, Llandovery recovered from 15-0 down at one stage to score 12 tries and leave Llangadog 76-34 winners. "We were all breathless at the end. The Llangadog forwards had the edge up front, but our backs were like lightning and scored with every opportunity," said Llandovery boss Martin Davies.

Full-back Celfyn Davies scored three tries and landed eight conversions to finish with a haul of 31 points as Llandovery took a 17-15 half-time lead before breaking loose in the second half. Centre Deian Augustus was another to register a hat-trick, with two tries going to wing Gareth Augustus and one each for centre Aled Davies, wing Rhys Davies, flanker Ken Hughes and No.8 Daniel Thomas.

Llangadog played their full part in the Tywi Valley derby with two tries from lock Alan Price, the others to score being flanker Gareth Jones and lock Dafydd Thomas. Fly-half Adrian Williams completed the scoring with three conversions and a penalty.

Whitland L H 2/10/04 W 24 - 18
There was nothing to choose between the teams at the end of the first half, with the teams level on 8-8.

"Whitland were playing well and were 18-14 up with six minutes left before we came out on top 24-18," said Llandovery boss Martin Davies.

Full-back Celfyn Davies starred for Llandovery by converting his own try and landing four penalties. The other Llandovery try was down to fly-half Arwel Davies, the points for Whitland coming from two tries by No.8 Cerith McNally, one of which was converted by fly-half Alistair Bowen who also fired over a couple of penalties.

Penlan L H 9/10/04 W 27 - 22
Llandovery currently occupy pole position after an exciting 27-22 victory at home to Penlan. The match was delayed for nearly an hour after the referee travelled to Penlan instead of to the Drovers HQ, but the action came thick and fast when the whistle was eventually blown to start the game.

No. 8 Daniel Thomas crashed over for the opening Llandovery try, followed by touchdowns from wing Simon Jones, centre Deian Augustus and fly-half Rhys Davies, while full-back Celfyn Davies added two conversions and a penalty.

Penlan played their part with tries by Mark Evans, Anthony Butt and Bobby Prentice, with one conversion and a penalty by fly-half Steve Williams.

Llangennech L H 16/10/04 L 38 - 30
It was a short stay at the top for Llandovery, whose 38-30 defeat at Llangennech saw them toppled from pole position as defending champions Carmarthen Quins came home 72-7 winners from Whitland. Llangennech continued their current run of good form, with full-back David Owen converting two tries by fly-half Simon Davies plus others by centre Craig Bassett and wing Dean Gibbs. No. 8 Jeremy Evans and wing Eifion Howells were the others to hit the try line for Llangennech, who were up 30-15 up at half-time.

Llandovery played their full part in an entertaining encounter, crossing for six unconverted tries, with two going to full-back Celfyn Davies, while wings Simon Jones and Gareth Augustus, fly-half Arwel Davies and flanker Dylan Thomas also scored.

Dunvant L H 23/10/04 W 19 - 18
The wet weather stopped half the league programme in its tracks on Saturday, but the heavy rain failed to prevent Llandovery beating Dunvant 19-18 in a thriller at Church Bank.

And it took a last minute conversion by full-back Celfyn Davies to secure victory for Llandovery after centre Aled Davies had swept through a gap in the Dunvant defence to record his side's third try.

Dunvant held a 10-5 lead at half-time in torrential conditions with tries by fly-half Jay Parry and full-back Lee Tucker.

Llandovery full-back Davies touched down for the home side's only points of the first half.

Scrum-half Elgan Davies doubled the Drovers try count after the break only for wing Mathew Tucker to reply with a try for Dunvant, whose lead increased to 18-12 when centre Mike Arnold landed a penalty.

"To say that we played in monsoon conditions would be an under statement, but despite the heavy rain, all the players adapted well to the wet conditions. We just about deserved it in the end," said Llandovery official Martin Davies.

Carmarthen Quins L H 30/10/04 L 15 - 19
It was all systems go on Saturday following the previous weekend's deluge, and it was touch and go at Llandovery where defending champions Carmarthen Quins left it very late to record a 19-15 victory. Lock Gary Evans produced a skipper's performance for the Quins when going over for his second try to secure a win for his side with only a minute left on the watch.

''We were winning 15-14 and deserved to be ahead, but the Quins kept at it and finally broke through just before the end,'' said Llandovery boss Martin Davies. ''I was delighted with the performance of the Llandovery side.''

Wing Gareth Augustus and brother Deian, who plays in the centre, crossed for the Llandovery tries, one of which was converted by full-back Celfyn Davies, who also landed a penalty.

Centre Ellis Davies scored in the first half for the Quins, his try converted by fly-half Leighton McKenna. He also converted one of the tries by his skipper in the second half.

Bonymaen L A 13/11/04 L 21 - 5
A try by centre Mike Morris, converted by fly-half Paul Warlow, was all Bonymaen had to show for a hard-fought first half against Llandovery.

Centre Neil Wilcox and wing Neil Griffiths touched down for Bony in the second half, both tries converted by Warlow, as Bony won 21-5. Llandovery replied with a try by centre Deian Augustus.

Llangennech L A 4/12/04 L 20 - 22
It was a disappointed Llandovery dressing room at the end of the match against visiting Llangennech, for whom scrum-half Liam Davies kicked a penalty in the dying moments to snatch a 22-20 victory. ''We are disappointed to say the least after losing with the last kick of the game following a controversial penalty,'' said Llandovery spokesman Martin Davies, whose side led 12-5 at half-time.

Full-back Celfyn Davies scored most of the points for Llandovery with a try, two conversions and a couple of penalties; the second Llandovery try came from centre Rhys Davies.

Liam Davies starred for Llangennech, the nippy scrum-half crossing twice and converting a try by hooker Chris Bowen before landing the all-important late penalty. The remaining points for Llan came when wing David Owen converted one of the tries by scrum-half Davies.

Penlan warmed up for their crunch Worthington Cup quarter-final clash at Glyncoch next weekend with a convincing 32-5 triumph in the Polypipe Challenge against visiting Llandovery. Flanker Martin Dobbs crossed for two of Penlan's five tries, the others going to hooker Kevin Murphy, centre Robbie Watkins and prop Craig Francis. Fly-half Lee Ali completed the scoring with a penalty and two conversions. All Llandovery could manage in response was a try by fly-half Arwel Davies.

"We were 12-0 down at half-time after playing into the strong wind," said Llandovery boss Martin Davies. "We wish them every success in the Worthington Cup."

Clwb Rygbi Caerdydd F H 15/1/05 W 17 - 12
Llandovery overcame a stern challenge from the Welsh-language Cardiff-based side to grind out a tough win on a quagmire of a pitch at Church Bank. The sides were tied at 5-5 at the interval, but the Drovers put in a strong second half performance to finally kill off the spirited visitors. Scrum half Matthew Bailey sold an outrageous dummy as he went over for a first half try. Wing Gareth Augustus raced in from 30 yards out to increase the lead before speedster Dyfed Watkins stepped on the gas and left would-be tacklers in the mud with three side-steps to score from fully 50 metres. Centre Rhys Davies converted to seal the win.

Carmarthen Quins L A 22/1/05 L 30 - 0
There is no change at the top of the table after Carmarthen Quins kept a clean sheet in recording a 30-0 victory at home to Llandovery.

''I'm pleased the boys stuck at it. It was so cold we could all have done with a couple of minutes each in a microwave after the game,'' said Llandovery boss Martin Davies.

The Quins breached the Drovers defence on four occasions to record tries by locks Robert Dyer and Gary Evans, flanker Paul Morgan and wing Dafydd Edwards. Fly-half Leighton McKenna completed the scoring with two penalties and a couple of conversions.

Bonymaen L H 29/1/05 L 8 - 43
It was Llandovery who opened the scoring with a penalty by full-back Celfyn Davies and try by flanker Dylan Thomas. The visitors replied with tries by No 8 David Allen and lock Andrew Yates, who also skippers the side. Fly-half Paul Warlow landed both conversions and kicked a penalty . He also fired over three conversions in the second half to tries by flanker Nick Clancy, centre Michael Morris and livewire hooker Dean Davies.

Whitland L A 19/2/05 W 17 - 30
There might only have been one game in the league on the weekend due to the Howells Cup but there was no shortage of drama. The start of the match between Whitland and Llandovery was delayed for 45 minutes after the Drovers' replacement hooker Dylan James suffered a neck injury when falling awkwardly during the pre-match warm-up.

''Dylan was stretched out on the field and it was a case of safety first as paramedics called the Air Ambulance to take him to Morriston Hospital,'' said Llandovery boss Martin Davies. ''His injury doesn't appear to be too serious but no one took any chances.''

The Drovers recovered from the incident to win 30-17 after the teams were locked on 17-17 at half-time.

No. 8 Cerith McNally and centre Alistair Bowen hit the tryline for Whitland, the tries converted by fly-half Christian Richards, who also kicked a penalty.

Llandovery crossed for four tries through hooker Rhys Richards, wing Jason Williams, wing Gareth Augustus and prolific full-back Celfyn Davies, who fired over two conversions and a couple of penalties as the visitors took control in the second half.

Waunarlwydd F A 16/4/05 W 12 - 14 .
Four new players helped lead Athletic to victory last Saturday. Llandovery secured an away victory against Waunarlwydd depite transportation problems before the match. Martin Davies, of Llandovery, said the team warmed up by walking to the Waunarlwydd ground after the bus driver refused to drive under a low bridge. He said, "The boys had to walk for ten minutes with their kit to reach the match".

Despite the rigmarole, Llandovery were the strongest side in last weekend's friendly.

Llandovery will play host to Waunarlwydd next season when the team join them in the Polypipe league.
