STAG have now received the planning permissions needed for the bridge construction and wall repairs. Having notified the lottery heritage office that this is the case and that we have received Trafford M,B,C's contribution to the funding. We have now also received the necessary start approval from the Heritage Lottery Fund and their first payment.

Trafford MBC have removed some trees including the one which would obstruct the bridge approach and they have sorted out the culvert which was preventing normal moat drainage

.The bridge has been constructed and has now been installed. The iron gate for the wall opening has been made.

Excavation work is proceeding well with a large main trench showing foundation walls and sandstone remains. There have already been a large number of mainly pottery finds some of which have already been cleaned and assembled.

The JCB  built the two ramps across the south moat. It has also transferred all the spoil heaps back into the old excavations.

We now have many kilograms of pottery samples to add to those from our earlier digs. These are shown on the pottery page. Click here to view

15/8/09  We now have a bridge at last. The wall repair is progressing well.

Our most interesting find to date - a flint arrowhead,

Unfortunately in the rubble layer so no help with dating but tending to confirm the early dates for occupation of the site.
