Here are some of our favourite games.

Rabbits in the Warren

Two Brownies form an arch to make the 'warren'.  The others - the 'rabbits' - form a line and run in a circle, going under the arch.  A leader shouts "Stop" and "Go".  On "Stop", the warren drop their arms to catch any rabbits inside.  When two rabbits have been caught, they form another arch and so on, until only one rabbit is left.  She is declared the winner!

Fishes

The Brownies sit in a circle, facing outwards.  They are named around the circle after types of fish eg. COD, HADDOCK, PLAICE, SKATE.  A leader calls out instruction for the Brownies to follow.  They always start off by running clockwise and must not overtake.

The COD came out - they run around the circle.

The wind blew faster - get faster!

The wind blew more softly - get slower!

The tide turned - they turn around and run the other way.

The storm broke - they run back to their place.  They must not go back!

The last one back is out and faces inwards.

The Queen's got a Headache

The Brownies sit in a line at one end of the room and are numbered.  Chairs are arranged in the middle of the room as an obstacle.  One Brownie (the Queen) sits on a chair at the other end of the room with some keys next to her.  A number is called and that Brownie must try to negotiate the obstacle and get the keys without being heard.  If the Queen hears her, she says, "The Queen's got a headache!" and the Brownie returns to her place.  If she manages to get the key, she becomes the Queen.
