Organic Gardening and Chemical Use

We always try to avoid powerful chemicals and are happy to follow strict organic principles when requested. Like the familiar household names such as Alan Titchmarsh and Geoff Hamilton we try to follow organic principles where practical. Those of us who have brought powerful chemicals to solve problems in the garden know that promises on the bottles are seldom of long term benefit, often to the contrary. Organic materials such as bulky rotted manures and composts (no smell and safe to handle) not only offer essential nutrients but also help to condition the soil in ways that no known manmade fertiliser can ever achieve.

Some of our practices include:

  • Restricting the use of pesticides in favour of encouraging natural predators such a lace wings and ladybirds
  • Restricting the use of fungicides in favour of providing better conditions for plants to protect them selves
  • Composting of garden waste to make rich compost
  • Restricting the use of peat
  • Avoiding chemicals that may be dangerous to children, animals or pets

But above all we apply common sense.
