vw's @ stansted 2008
I arrived around 3pm on Friday but found nobody about. After 15 minutes a few people came out of the school and at 3.30pm the heavens opened to hailstones and a gust of wind this sent the people back to the school. They appeared again after it stopped and retreated in a number of vans with smoke pouring out of them. I got on the plot at 4pm and took advice and did not put the gazebo up until Saturday Morning.
This is a small show for a small school. I mainly went to promote our VW show in May. They had a few traders but when I chatted with a few and I found business was far from good. You only had to look at the car park to see this was the case.
This venue was mainly filled with the local clubs. It was poorly advertised and there was a lack of signs, with their website still showing last years details. This did nothing for their attendance figures.
This show is a Saturday only show with camping overnight. There were not many traders, a few food vendors not much in auto-jumble. A few cars in the concourse but it seemed most people came to get to the beer tent. The evening entertainment was provided by water-cooled cars burning up the field. You could see the remains of a burnt tent and a large burnt area resembling a crop circle. This also shows the lack of any security on site.
This was a real shame, as it seems to have reached a peak and is now on a decline, even the show sponsor’s did not display the wares. We had a small display with members in various locations. I did have members cancel because of the lack of signs and getting lost.
