enfield pageant of motoring 2008
I arrived about 1pm on Friday, checked out our plot and once again I was the first one there. I then went and found water and came back to our plot. After a short period of time other members began to arrive…
With their help we put two gazeboes up together and zipped them tight, totally waterproof and windproof. The weather was sunny and we had a pleasant day and evening. On Saturday I awoke early and watched the vehicles arriving. It was another dry and sunny day. We had a good selection of VW’s from our members. In the evening some of the members chatted and watched a DVD or two in our entertainment gazeboes. After a few beers and a barbeque the evening went quickly it was soon time to retire for the night.
On Sunday I woke to find the sun had gone and the rain was upon us, so we carried on as we do and about 11am the rain stopped and out came the sun, perfect! We had a few changes in the display on our club stand but on the whole there was a load of clubs that never turned up for some reason or another.
On Monday our display had gone down to two overnight Campers, 1 Golf (very briefly) and a third Camper that had come to help me take down the last gazebo. It was raining hard when I woke at 5am it got steadily worse and knowing of how this event gets waterlogged I started to pack up by 10.45am. Thoroughly soaked and very cold I then left the site. I hope for better weather next year, as it is 3 or more years now that rain has stopped play.
Right now for the thanks. I like to thank both members for helping me with the gazeboes. I also like to thank other members for cooking my food on their barbeque and for various hot drinks. Finally a big thank you to the member that lives local to come out in the pouring rain and help me pack up the gazebo. I have not mentioned your names but you know who you are! Again many thanks.
