bug jam 22
This was my first time at Bug Jam and after hearing all the horror stories I was determined to find out for myself. We arrived early Friday afternoon and camped in the club camping section with some newfound friends. After hearing about all the dodgy goings-on over in the general camping section, we thought this was the safest option.
The drag strip was empty and it was £15 to RWYB (Run What Ya Brung). The bus did a 23.8s even though it was fully loaded (beer, bed, trolley-jack, etc). I have posted the video on Facebook if anyone fancies a laugh!
Anyway, there was lots of stuff to do. The trade village was open with all sorts of stalls and food vendors. There was live music on the main stage with both Blur and Oasis tribute bands, plus dance music in the tents in the evening. The music and the fun fair went onto around 1.30am (surprisingly). If you have kids I strongly recommend you camp in the family area due to the noise.
Saturday morning started bright and breezy, and the drag strip was quickly dried out and started the second day of the RWYB competition. Over in the Live Action Arena, a full day of stunts and car-crushing carnage took place, with shows from the incredible Zero Gravity mountain bike trials crew, big-air back flips from the UKFMX team, drifting, donut and 2-wheeling action from Terry Grant, including a specially commissioned New Beetle stunt show, with the finale being a 5-ton monster-truck show. The arena held a massive crowd all day with the non-stop action.

Saturday night came around with a full line-up of rocking tribute acts on the Red Stripe stage including covers of The Rolling Stones and Status Quo. The Big Tops hosted more dance music for those that had energy left from the previous night!
The weather was a little intermittent, with occasional showers stopping racing every so often all weekend. As for the drag racing… what can I say? WOW!!!!!! The jet cars and the funny cars were fantastic – even the jet Beetle was a laugh.
Just Kampers and Andy Saunders spent the 3 days making a T25 into a ‘Vancake’. This mini-Volkswagen is only 3’1” – the world’s lowest Volkswagen bus ever – plus it’s street legal!

Kirsty.
