battlesbridge grand mobilia day
I arrived on Saturday around 11am and found a Bay and a Type 25 already on our club plot. My daughter camped from Friday evening. With the help from Phil, I set up our club stand, and then it was time to relax, have a few beers and chill out. After a while a third Bay arrived. We had no Beetles camping at this show; still it was like old times. There were more Bays than any other model, 2 other Type 25’s were booked to camp overnight but they did not show.
I got up at early Sunday morning after hearing incoming vehicles, the temperature in the van was 42oF (5oC) so I decided not to put my shorts on until later. Camping gas always struggles when temperatures are very cold and it took a while before the coffee was made. The club members arrived in dribs and drabs, soon we had a good display in the usual ‘U’ shape display at the bottom of the field.
The field became quickly packed with fighting breaking out at the top of the field! Soon members of the public were telling me that the queue was taking 1½-2 hours just to get in. A marshal informed me that they were refusing entrance to the field now as it was packed. So again this year we had a few non-VW’s on our club stand. We had a total of five Beetles on our club stand, a Spit-Screen Single-cab, five Bay’s and two Type 25’s.
This was a good and varied display, with members of the public looking at all the VW’s on our club stand including mine (which was as I got up with sleeping equipment still to be packed away). The weather was very hot and my daughter got sunburnt (as usual), I also got burnt as well. I later done the rounds with trade booking forms for our show next year and booked another food vendor plus the AA and retired back to our plot to cool down.
This was a great show but if the weather was different there would have more space for everyone and nobody would have been turned away. Thank you to those members who called me to say that due to the queue of 200 cars in front of them they were off to the seaside instead. I would also like to thank members that made themselves known to me because they did come with their VW.
Brian.
