west bergholt classic vehicle show
I arrived on the Friday afternoon and with the help from one of our club members the gazebo was erected and then it was time for relaxing in the hot weather. There were a few problems with the size of the plot, but the organizers told me to take or leave it and by this time other members had arrived so I decided to make the best out of it.
Saturday more members arrived and we awaited a full program of events. This years’ events started by a parade of Suffolk horses, next came a varied selection of commercial vehicles and after that we had a yak doing aerobatics in the sky above (for those who are interested, a yak is a single propeller plane). Then we had a small display of classic cars, a display from the Colchester dog agility display team, a RAF rescue helicopter (if you sneezed you would have missed it) and to finish the show we had another parade of Suffolk horses. Phew. Later that evening we had a country and western night, which was set up opposite the beer tent. This was a great ending of the day’s entertainment.
Sunday we had some members leave while others joined us. We made the most of the space available to us. Sunday was more entertaining with all of the events from the day before (except for the yak and helicopter) and we had more of the commercial vehicles and even old buses. We had the Imps motorcycle display team - last time they was here they managed to kill one of themselves, sadly no such excitement today, but 1 did pass out in the heat and an ambulance was called.
We had a large display of classic cars in the arena and two of our members joined the non-VW’s in the parade. The first was a red/white Beetle 1302s and then a white Type 3 Fastback. We also had a display from the Melton Mowbray Soldiers Band playing Abba tunes. We then had what was described as the Battle of Britain Memorial flight but this was just a lone spitfire flying very low (RAF Cut backs). Later around 4pm we had the Princess of Wales’s Royal Regiment Free Fall Parachute Display Team that landed in the arena. The weather was very hot all weekend and everyone enjoyed the show.
This is a good show although space at is always tight, but well worth attending. We will be back.
Brian.
