STONOR PARK
After attending this show for around 20 consecutive years, I had a couple of years off and was pleasantly surprised that it’s still as popular as ever. The show venue is set in the heart of the Chiltern Hills just outside Henley-On-Thames. The event is set up in the grounds of Stonor House and entrance to the house is included in the admission price.
We camped from the Saturday in the main camping area with around 50 or so other vans and had a really relaxed evening. We woke up Sunday to hear the sound of rain on the bus, but it was soon nice and sunny, I even managed to get sunburnt!!
The show was huge, with VW’s still coming in after 2pm. There was a good selection of traders, from rusty spares and auto-jumble to VW canvas art and jewellery. There were lots of Dubs in the Show ‘n’ Shine plus the Split Screen Van Club had too many vans to count! There was also a large number of water cooled VW’s at the show, which seemed to blend effortlessly with their air-cooled counterparts.
Only complaint… lack of something to do on Saturday night. Perhaps having a beer tent or food vendors opening up would be a good idea, I’m sure the other people that camped over would agree.
