cornwall vw jamboree
The Jamboree is run by Cornwall Volkswagen Owners Club and is one of the longest running club shows in the UK. It’s a 3-night show, with entertainment on every night, as well as the usual things you'd expect over a VW weekender. The show is held at the Stithians Showground, near Falmouth, only a few minutes from the A39. I recommend taking a Sat Nav and not asking the locals (long story!!!).
After traveling down to Cornwall in the Beetle we didn’t get to the show until 9pm on the Friday night and tried putting the tent up in the dark with the aid of the Beetle’s headlamps. We camped with friends on the DBS club stand. I think we need to start expanding EVD!!!
Saturday was my birthday and there was a lot to look around. There were lots of trade and craft stands, but very few auto-jumble. The weather was good all weekend, although it was a bit stormy in the evenings.
There were lots for children to do at this event. Richard Ready kept the kids entertained during the afternoon with magic and balloons. There was also a bucking bronco and other children's activities. Live music was provided from the Belfast Busker, who played his own brand of 1-man Irish Folk music, and of course the VW Band, Druid’s Brew who played several chilled sets through the weekend.
On Saturday night there was a fancy dress party in the marquee. The theme for 2008 was 'Heroes & Villains'. There was a DJ and a couple of bands during the evening.
The Show 'n' Shine competition was on the Sunday and featured some really striking air-cooled VW’s.
This show has a well-earned reputation of being one of the most friendly and relaxed VW shows around, but then it is in Cornwall. I would definitely recommend this show.
