Locomotive Specification:-

There were 251 Class 9F locomotives built by British Railways. 

92214 was Swindon Locomotive Works number 53 and Crewe works number 198.

Built in Swindon and out-shopped in October 1959 at a cost of £33,497.  Works Order Lot number 429.

Boiler Specification:

Built in 1957 at a cost of £8,746.  Boiler number 1889.

Working pressure 250 psi (Pounds per square inch).
Flue tubes 35 - at 5.25in. diameter.
Small tubes 138 - at 2in. diameter.
Grate area 40.2 square feet.
Heating surface 2,550 square feet.
Weight (including all tubes) 21.4 tons. (Excluding smokebox).
Water capacity 2,320 gallons (measured).
Superheater 35 elements - five rows of seven flues.

Tender Specification:

Built in 1959. Tender number 1519.

92219 - notes.

This locomotive was out-shopped in January 1960 at Swindon works. It carried boiler number 1894 and tender number 1526. Dimensions are as those given above for 92214. 

Allocated to sheds:- St. Phillips Marsh (Jan 1960), Cardiff Canton (Feb 1960), Cardiff East Dock (Sep 1962).

Mileage at 28th Dec 1963 was 116,967 miles.

August 1965 - Condemned by British Railways.

September 1965 - sold to Woodham's Brothers scrapyard in Barry.

1984 - sold to 9F Locomotive Charitable Trust Company.

May 1985 - moved to Peak Rail site at Buxton.

Late 1980's - moved to present home at the Midland Railway Centre.
