Driver's position with (anticlockwise from bottom right) - sander control, blower valve,  train vacuum brake handle, steam brake handle, regulator, small and large ejector controls, reverser with drum indicating mid gear and cylinder drain cocks lever.

Cab baffle plate shut.JPG (102692 bytes) Photo added 1st July 2003.

The firehole doors open and the flap in the up position. The purpose of the flap is to give better control (along with the firehole doors) of the secondary air entering the firebox.

Cab baffle plate open.JPG (97531 bytes) Photo added 1st July 2003.

The flap in the down position, showing the baffle plate in the upper half of the firehole and the inner / outer firebox wrapper flange protector in the lower half.

Tender cabinets open.JPG (57176 bytes) Photo added 1st July 2003.

Storage lockers for crew use in the front of the tender. The small wooden panel in the right hand locker is to hold spare gauge glasses.

Cab drivers door.jpg (65890 bytes) Photo added 17th June 2003.

The driver's side cab door in the closed position. The door is hinged on the tender body and folds away when open. Note the thick rubber sheets on the bottom of the door to help prevent draughts. A similar door is fitted on the fireman's side. At bottom left is the coal shoveling plate.

Cab floor and drivers door.jpg (68408 bytes) Photo added 17th June 2003.

Tender shoveling plate, fall plate and engine footplate. The fall plate is hinged on the tender body and covers the engine/tender gap at all times.

Cab view from tender.jpg (83104 bytes) Photo added 3rd June 2003.

Overall view of the completed cab fittings, taken from inside the tender coal space.

Cab floorboards.jpg (67130 bytes) Photo added 3rd June 2003.

The wooden floor boards. The ring in the centre board allows it to be lifted for access to the locomotive drawbar pin.

Crew seats.jpg (60019 bytes) Photo added 3rd June 2003.

The driver's position showing the leather seat cushion and seat back. The cabinet under the seat is for oil bottle storage.

The fireman's position showing the wooden seat and leather seat back.

Steam chest_vacuum gauges.jpg (72991 bytes) Photo added 21st May 2003.

Drivers side cab gauges piped up, with (top) Steam Chest pressure gauge and (bottom) Dual Vacuum gauge.  The left needle is for train pipe vacuum and the right needle for the locomotive vacuum reservoir.

Steam heat_boiler pressure gauges.jpg (64843 bytes) Photo added 21st May 2003.

Fireman's side cab gauges piped up, with (top) Carriage Warming steam pressure and (bottom) Boiler Steam pressure gauge. The control wheel to the right of the boiler pressure gauge is for the carriage warming steam valve.

ATC box.jpg (76716 bytes) Photo added 21st May 2003.

ATC box fitted to drivers pedestal, with the train vacuum brake control handle directly underneath.

Injector controls.jpg (70831 bytes) Photo added 21st May 2003.

View of the fireman's injector controls, "slacking" pipe valve and tender coal sprinkler valve. The base at the lower right of the photograph is for the fireman's wooden seat. (See below for a labeled photo).

Drivers pedestal.jpg (62899 bytes) Photo moved here 21st May 2003.

The drivers pedestal controls with, from top to bottom, Blower valve, Steam sander valve (forward and backwards), Vacuum Reservoir release button, Tender Steam Brake cylinder isolating valve.

Cab water gauges.jpg (96973 bytes) Photo added 14th May 2003

Labeled view of the water gauges and manifold shutoff valve.

Injector taps labeled.jpg (58324 bytes) Photo added 14th May 2003

Labeled view of some of the fireman's controls.

Drivers position labeled.jpg (100053 bytes) Photo added 6th May 2003

Labeled view of the Drivers position.

Drivers brake valve labeled.jpg (87168 bytes) Photo added 6th May 2003

A second labeled view of the drivers position, concentrating on the steam brake.

Firebox slide.jpg (68934 bytes)

Top view of one of two rear firebox to mainframe mountings. These mountings prevent the firebox moving side-to-side, yet allow rearward movement. Note the lubrication feed pipe.

As the smokebox end of the boiler is rigidly fixed to the mainframes, generating the heat required to raise the boiler from cold to full working pressure will result in the firebox expanding backwards into the cab by approximately 0.75 inches.

Cab grate_dampers.jpg (82951 bytes) Labeled photo showing damper and grate mechanisms.
Cab pedestal.jpg (74183 bytes) Driver's pedestal being fitted. The copper pipe in this view will connect to the ATC box for authenticity purposes only.
Cab water taps.jpg (64299 bytes) Fireman's side injector water valve controls and front damper control wheel.
