Tender Sieve Boxes

Tender sieve box ready.jpg (67078 bytes) There are two sieve boxes mounted on the tender, one each side of the vehicle. Their purpose is to ensure that no 'foreign bodies' in the tender tank can pass to the injectors. Each of the sieve boxes supplies water to one of the injector water taps.

In this view the driver's side sieve box is about to be lifted into position using wedges and crowbars. The shut off tap has yet to be fitted.

Tender sieve box tap.jpg (50236 bytes) The sieve box in position and secured by nuts and washers. The (now fitted) shut off tap, when closed, stops any flow of water from the sieve box to the injector tap. This means that the flap at the bottom of the sieve box can be opened, the sieve removed, cleaned and refitted without draining the tender tank. It also means work can be carried out on the injector without wasting water.
Tender sieve box pipe.jpg (65960 bytes) Pipework fitted to carry the water forward to the injector tap via the flexible hose.
