of the leading driving wheel brake
hanger, brake crossbeam and brake block. The pony truck pivot arm can be
seen to the left of the picture.
Also shown is the
leading sander.

The
forward steam brake cylinder, which provides, via the crossbeams and
rodding, braking power to the front two driving axles.

View
of the fireman's side brake adjusting turnbuckle, just behind the rear
set of driving wheels. The turnbuckle, and associated shafts, is machined
with a right-hand thread and a left-hand thread, so rotating the
turnbuckle clockwise will pull both shafts together thus bringing the
brake blocks closer to the wheel. The driver's side turnbuckle can be
seen in the background. The locking nuts are approximately 4 inches
across flats.
These adjusters are for the
brakes on the rear three sets of driving wheels, there is a separate
steam brake cylinder, and adjusters, for the front two sets of driving
wheels.
