In the plate competition the drunkards lost 2-1 to eventual plate winners Portsmouth in a match they should have done better in. A more in depth report on the Worldnet 2003 experience will follow shortly.

Drunkards beaten at Sheffield
PDFC were well beaten in Sheffield last weekend. With no Brian Durrant or Steve
Cunnew in attendance, David Pilgrim took over the reins for this gaem. Playing for
the blues included a number of the InterOwls team. On a muddy pitch the Blades
triumphed 8-3. The goals came from Jim Nicholls flicking in a Mike Marsh header,
and one of our loanees. Punch Drunk look forward to a return match in a couple of
weeks time.
PDFC beat Morecambe
A Si Parsons goal seperated the two teams in an evenly matched game at Northgate
Sports Centre. On a freezing cold morning, many Morecambe players and spectators
turned up. Punch Drunk would like to thank them for making the
long trip down to Ipswich, and also David Pilgrim, who organised the match.
Friendly Arranged
A Friendly match has been arranged against a set of Morecambe fans, due to be
played on the morning before the FA Cup game on the 4th January.
The match is being
arranged by PDFC's newest recruit, David Pilgrim.
A vs B Result
Due to the Intergills not fancying a trip to Suffolk, a Punch Drunk A vs Punch
Drunk B match was arranged. The A team won confortably 5-0 with goals from
James Durrant (1), Luke Jones (1) and Jim Nicholls (3).
The match saw a return between the sticks for veteran Chris Towell as well as a few new and
younger faces.
A full match report will follow soon.

Punch Drunk progress to 2nd Round of plate shocker!
PDFC failed to qualify for the competition proper, finishing 3rd in their group, but
managed to reach the second round of the plate competition..... via a bye, before
losing 3-0 to Motherwell.
In the first match, Punch Drunk went down 4-0 to QPR but then followed that up with a
good 1-1 draw versus Hearts. An Animal goal sealed a 1-0 win against Grimsby
which was the first and only victory for the blues.
Let the voting begin!
Punch Drunk players will cast votes for their fellow players during the week before
Worldnet. The categories are:-
Player of the Year

PDFC beaten by Gills

blue boys, before unfortunate Darren Ockleton conceded a penalty which
Gills scored from. This was PDFC's final warm-up game before Worldnet 2002.
Young-guns triumph over Oldies
This match saw a few young drunkards make their debuts. Punch Drunk will stage several
more of these type of matches throughout next season.

at 11:00am, ending just before the World Cup final kicks off.

Saturday 6th July.
Punch Drunk players must note that the matches will be played on an astro-turf
surface.
Animal to wed

marry girlfriend Lindsay. The marriage will be scheduled so that it will not
interfere with any Worldnet 2003 arrangements.
The news will come as a blow to all of Punch Drunk's female fans.

Hearts then follow at 13:40, before Grimsby take on the blues at 15:00.

into 16 groups of 4, and this means 2 groups to a pitch. Also playing on pitch D
will be Stockport, Brentford A, Dunfermline and Leicester.
The full schedule for Group 8 is as follows:-
09:40 GRIMSBY vs HEARTS
11.00 QPR 'A' vs IPSWICH

Worldnet groups drawn!
PDFC have been drawn against QPR A, Grimsby and Hearts in Group 8. QPR A are one

Worldnet groups drawn soon
The draw for the Worldnet groups is to be made very soon.
The IFA are grouping the teams by
regionalising them, given them numbers, passing these numbers and
regionalisations to someone else who will make the draw, and then passing
the results of the draw back so that the numbers are turned back to team
names and then the groups will be published. This is being done so that
nobody can claim the groups were fixed and in order to play teams from other
parts of the country (so PDFC are unlikely to be drawn in the same group as
Norwich).
The system has already recieved fierce critism, most notably from Punch Drunk forward
and Hull City manager Martin Beecroft
who was upset about not being able to play against some of their local rivals.
New league table
The new IFA League table was updated for May. Punch Drunk occupy 56th place out of
62, in-between Londoners Tottenham and Chelsea. To view the full league table, click
here.
Punch Drunk repel the invaders
Punch Drunk beat the Vikings 3-2 in a thrilling end-to-end encounter. Drunkards Animal,
Dave Baker, Martin Beecroft, Matt Durrant and Brendan Holmes represented the Vikings to make
up their numbers. The blues were 1-0 up at half-time due to a Ryan Prout goal, but midway
through the second half found themselves 2-1 down before Prout struck again.
An own goal from Dave Baker sealed PDFC's first ever win over
the Danes.
Towell retires again
PDFC veteran has retired again after he further damaged his left achilles tendon
whilst playing cricket. He decided enough was enough because of the time
taken for his joints to recover from matches is too much. The first time he retired was against
Luton in December 2000. He then went on to make 4 more appearances before retiring again
yesterday.
Possible match against Cybury Gooners
Punch Drunk have been asked if they could get a team to play the Arsenal Internet
team
before the televised game between Arsenal and Ipswich. This would be down in
London somehere (not sure where, most probably Regents Park). The Gooners
were due to play Rangers on the 20th but have asked them to move the game to
the Sunday due to the move of the Arsenal v Ipswich game, so if Rangers
can't make it then the drunkards are next in line, so this might not go ahead at all.
It has been
suggested that if Rangers don't have enough, and Punch Drunk could get a few names down,
that there could be the possibility of a 'Rangers and Ipswich XI' play if there are enough in total.
Viking Hordes invading our shores again!
The morning of the Man Utd game sees the Viking boys invading us
again. April 27th will mark the fourth time that Punch Drunk have played
against the Vikings.
Match arranged against cockney boys
A match against West Ham has been pencilled in for the morning of March 30th.
The game will be played in the morning at Hackney Marshes before the 'real' teams
come face to face in the afternoon. The previous meeting between these two sides
ended in a 2-0 win for the Hammers at Gainsborough.
Punch Drunk B triumph over A team
A Beecroft hatrick ensured a 4-2 win for the boys who weren't going to Worldnet.
In Beecroft's case he will be playing for the Hull team in the summer. His
first was a low shot in to the corner, just out of reach from Blues keeper Durrant.
Ex-boss Phil Porter equalised with a close range effort. Beecroft got his second
latching on to a one-two with Dave Baker then clipping it into the net, his third
was a hugely wind-assisted shot. The boys in blue got one back through Dan Parsons to make it 3-2
before 14 year old Darren Ockleton scored from a corner at the far post when
he tripped over and the ball flukely hit his back, a defender and the bar before
going in. It was a good workout for Punch Drunk and in particular the youngsters
who did well.
Yet another match cancelled
The proposed match against Southampton IFC has been cancelled due to the
Saints being unable to raise a team. Punch Drunk will still be playing some
sort of game as it has been suggested that the Drunkards play those who are going
to Worldnet against those who aren't, in a kick-about match. The final decision
will be made on Saturday morning. Those who are attending should remember to bring
an orange kit if they have one.
Gills game cancelled
The tie against Intergills scheduled for the 10th February has been cancelled.
Punch Drunk have been unable to raise enough players for the match to go ahead.
Only the home leg against the Gills has been arranged for the rest of the season,
however
manager Steve Cunnew is confident of persuading Southampton and West Ham into
playing
a match.
Derby 5 Punch Drunk 7
This highscoring encounter ended with Punch Drunk's first win of the season.
The Drunkards started with 10 men against 11, but was soon evened up with the
injury of a county player. The score was 3-3 at half-time and with the blues playing
uphill, against the wind and with the sun in their eyes, still came through to
triumph 7-5, with Nicholls getting a hatrick, and Beecroft scoring 4.

Nicholls end 6 month goal drought
Blues striker Jim Nicholls has ended his goal drought with a fantastic hatrick at
Derby today. Before Saturday he went 9 games without scoring and is now delighted
at ending the run.
Punch Drunk bottom of League
Punch Drunk have now sunk to the bottom of the league after the latest table was
published by the IFA on the 26th November 2001. Five other teams join them on 1 point
but the Drunkards have a worse goal difference, -8 compared with the -5 of Wolves,
who are directly above them.
Many of Punch Drunk's supporters have been calling for the head of newly appointed
manager Steve Cunnew, but Club officials have urged supporters to give Cunnew more
time as they have only played in one competitive match this season, and that new
players are required.
Vikings Conquer Ipswich!
The annual visit of the Danish Supporters club ended in a 5-2 victory to the visitors.
The Vikings were lent a few players in order to make the numbers up, these were Andy
Jump, Animal and the veteran Chris Towell. The scoreline was flattering to the side
with the multi-coloured shirts but the Danes were always stronger. Dan Parsons' 35
yard wonder goal and Dave Baker's tap in (his first for Punch Drunk) completed
the scoring.
PDFC will be at Worldnet
Punch Drunk have been registered to play at Worldnet 2002. This will be the team's
5th appearance in a Worldnet tournament. This year's will be held in Leeds again, on the
weekend of the 13/14th July, where PDFC will aim to get past the elusive group stage
for the first time. If you fancy representing us in this years tournament view the contact
us section of the site
Gills game back on?
Gillingham have been asked if they can take the place of West Ham on the 28th October
as both the Hammers and Punch Drunk failed to raise enough numbers for a match.
The last time Gillingham visited Ipswich, it ended in a 5-1 victory for the Drunkards
back in 1999, and so the Gilld must be keen to overturn that result.
Gills game cancelled
The traditional match against Gillingham has been cancelled due to both sides not having
enough players. Gillingham could make it on Sunday but not Saturday, whereas with
Punch Drunk it was the other way around.
The match may well be played at a later date.
Punch Drunk knocked out of cup
9-1 was the final result of the IFA Cup first round match against Watford at the
Gainsborough Sports Centre in Ipswich. Five Punch Drunk players made their debut
at this game, in what was a bit of a new-look team. The blue boys got they ray of
sunshine in what was otherwise a damp and dreary day both weather and football wise,
through James Durrant latching on to a poor defensive mix-up. Jim Nicholls recieved the
man of the match award for his performance (is that alright now Jim?)
Interesting/ boring fact of the day is that both the Durrant brothers made their debuts against Watford.
PDFC draw Watford in cup
Punch Drunk were drawn against Watford in the first round in Southern Group of
the IFA Cup. The proposed date for the tie is the 29th September. The last match between the two teams
ended in a 5-0 victory for Watford in London.
Zebras gallop to victory
The Zebras of Cambridge gallopped to an 8-0 victory over Punch Drunk.
Although in black and white the score may seem to be large, it was more than they honestly deserved.
Brian Durrant, Martin Beecroft and Simon Field all had half-chances to score for the blues
but unfortunately didn't get the rub of the green, and the chances were blasted
away by big zebra hooves. A more detailed report is available by clicking here
Charlton game cancelled
The game arranged for the 25th August against the Net Addicks has been cancelled due
to the south Londoners not being able to raise a team. This was because of many of
their players not be able to get their hands on any tickets for the afternoon match.
Double joy for Cunnew
Steve Cunnew, has two reasons to celebrate as the 29 year-old was appointed
the man with the duty to follow in the success (?!) of Philip Porter the other
day. Also, Cunnew's fiance gave birth to a baby girl - Alicia Marie Cunnew, who was
born on the Saturday morning of Worldnet 2001. Punch Drunk wish Steve and Kirsty
all the best.
Phil Porter Resigns as Manager
Phil Porter today stepped down as manager of Punch Drunk FC after more than 3
years in charge with Brian Durrant. A tearful Porter, 28 said "I've enjoyed
organising things and with Brian helping to pick sides which sometimes win."
He mentioned his highlights being Worldnet '98 and the Charlton BHF Tournament
of 2000, "It was lovely to see people come off the pitch with a smile on their
face after we had spent some time losing every match."
The favourite to take over the helm is Steve Cunnew, with Stuart Williams ruling
out any possibility of himself taking charge, but Chris Towell is known to be
considering the position. All candidates have been acknowledged/ warned that
Brian Durrant will be keeping his title as Assistant Manager.
Player Awards Announced!
After the Arsenal match at Worldnet '01 the Punch Drunk awards were announced.

PDFC battle bravely in Leeds
For the first time at a Worldnet tournament, Punch Drunk triumphed in their
first game. Martin Beecroft and Si Parsons sealed a 2-1 victory over the Net
Foxes. Two good nil-nil draws followed against Crystal Palace and Bradford before
a physical and whinging Hibernian side lashed out a 5-0 walloping to us - forcing
us into the plate competition.
After a heavy night's (bacardi breezer) drinking at the pub, Arsenal beat us 1-0,
knocking us out of the plate. A more detailed report is available here.
Punch Drunk crash out in the Group Stages of the BHF Tournament
PDFC finished 3rd in Group D, narrowly missing out on qualifying for the Quarter Finals of
the Tournament.
A 2-1 loss against Bradford in the first game was made up for with an
impressive 3-1 win over Group favourites Luton. This put us top of the group
on goals scored.
But sadly a 2-0 loss versus Gillingham was a disappointing result, seeing as we
had the lion's share of the match. Click here to read a more detailed
report of the tournament..
PDFC beaten by local rivals
Punch Drunk were well-beaten 10-1 at Norwich on Sunday. The 10 men who turned up for
the game tried hard, but were never given a chance as Norwich repeatedly fired in shots
at goal.
We were initially believed to be playing on astro-turf, but then the venue was
quickly changed to a grass pitch at short notice. Matt Kelly scored for the blues.
Animal piles on the pounds shocker!
We can exclusively reveal that right-back Richard Gough, nicknamed Animal for obvious
reasons if you've ever seen him play, has been piling on the pounds. It has been well
reported that Gough has been spotted in numerous McDonalds all over the country. Animal's
weight has now soared to a bloated 8 3/4 stones.
