Record Keeping

Accurate record keeping is essential to a successful breeding herd. It makes it easier to keep track of the number of births through out the year, the number of sales and the amount these sales have taken. You should be able to tell at a glance how successful (or not) particular pairings have been, how many kits a female has had and what colours. Does she tend to have a tendency to have large litters, are they healthy, large kits and so on.

The following tables are suggestions only, and are ones that I use myself or have been suggested to me in the past. If they will work for you then try them, alter them in any way that will make them more suitable for your unit and herd.

Letters Representing Year Of Birth.

Some breeders use a single digit letter in their kit code to represent the year the chin was born in. This is a personal choice, and varies from breeder to breeder, some will use it others will not. The table below lists the years and the letters representing them. Some letters are not used, such as G, I,O,Q and U and W to avoid confusion caused by similar letter shapes.
