Changing Food
Remember, when you buy a new chin, always ask the breeder to supply a small quantity of the food that it has been previously fed. The idea behind this is that you wean the chin onto your pellets by mixing your pellets in with these pellets. You start by adding a small quantity of your pellets to the mixture, and gradually over several days increase the amount of your pellets and decrease the amount of their pellets in the mix. This avoids any shock to the chinchillas digestive system, remember, a prolapsed intestine is NOT something you want to have to deal with !! Watch the chinchillas droppings, should they become soft and squishy follow the instructions I given in the Health section.
