Dealing With Summer Temperatures : Navigation
Every summer chinchillas die due to the hot
temperatures that physiologically they are not geared to cope with. During this
time you will probably find that as the temperatures climb, they become more
and more lethargic, flop on their side on the cage floor and do not move. Try
not to disturb them if you can during this time, too much activity could be
fatal for an animal that is struggling to cope with the temperature. Chins find
a temp of around 18 - 20°C to be most comfortable, in Summer temperatures in
chins rooms reached as high as 30 °C. Signs of overheating include red ear
(only an aid in light coloured chins such as standards, whites and beiges).
