THE CLUB...A BRIEF SUMMARISATION OF THE HISTORY OF THE DUKS
Dukinfield Cyclists Club, founded in 1885, are one of the oldest, established clubs in the country.
As with most clubs, new blood is a problem, especially the younger riders, but the club still boasts a very full and active membership. Many members have been with the club since their youth, whilst many "newer" members have been with the club for over 10 years.
As the name suggests, the club was formed in Dukinfield, but the majority of today's membership hail from the Stockport area, especially around Hazel Grove. Despite this, all the members are very proud of the tradition of the club, and the name is synonymous throughout the cycling fraternity of a good-natured, welcoming and well-organised club.
A few of the more active members regularly race during the season, and there are regular Sunday club runs throughout the surrounding areas.
The club hosts it's own Open 50-mile Time Trial in May, one of the oldest in the country, followed by the Open 25 in May/June. It also has a regular 10-mile Time Trials series during the summer, being held on Wednesday evenings in 2005. Check the Results page to see the latest news in that respect.
