GCSE REVISION NOTES

"Our Day Out" - Willie Russell

The set for Our Day Out needs very careful thought. The action should be fast-moving and slick, so big changes of scene/set would not work. You need one simple basic setting that can be used for a variety of locations.

eg a semi-circle of rostra blocks forming steps from the outside-in to form a high point in the upstage area.

In order to change location you could use either small empty oil drums, plastic crates, etc used as seats in the bus, then built up to form walls, battlements, etc etc for other scenes. Think about how these oil drums or crates could be carried and positioned by the actors/characters themselves, so that the action is continuous.

Remember, it's not how much you write, but what important relevant points you make. You can get a high mark by writing something fairly short but very detailed and very to the point.
