January 2008

During December I decided to have a go at getting onto the DSA (Driving Standards Agency) approved list for Post Test Motorcycle Trainers. Well I passed the theory in December and sent off my application at the beginning of January.

I am now an Approved Post Test Trainer, part of the Enhanced Rider Scheme (ERS) and on 10.1.2008 the only one in Staffordshire......

December 2007

Nearly at the end of another great year. I have met new clients renewed old friendships and organised the next venture, the Normandy Tour 2008, which is now fully booked. So what next you may ask..... Well I fancy either the Isle of Man in September or France, World War One sites.

One of the great things about being a motorcycle instructor / Trainer is the improvements you see, be them big or small in all the riders you come across. It is a part of the training that keeps me going.

I posted a few video clips on Youtube and that has taken off, with the site rapidly approaching 100,000 views. Can I take this opportunity through this site to say a BIG THANK YOU to all the comments and subscribers.

MERRY CHRISTMAS

Nigel, Sharon and Daniel

Advanced Motorcycle Tour - Workshop to Normandy 2008

I have provisionally booked some accommodation in Normandy for a weekend away from Friday 25th April to Monday 28th April 2008 for an advanced motorcycle training workshop. My initial thoughts are spend 2 days riding and one day looking at the WW2 sites. I am hoping to get 2 more experienced trainers, so we will have 3 video bikes, and then we can use the footage for a debrief each night using the wide screen projector at the b and b. I am hoping to travel out on Britany Ferries, Portsmouth to Cherbourg and return. It is in the early stages of planning and I am looking at taking at least 10 bikes across. If you are interested, please contact me. Will update we I know a little more, costs etc........

JUNE 2007

What a miserable month in terms of weather, lets hope for a better July. I have been busy with the internet and finding some very interesting sites you may want to look at. A very good site for route and touring tips is BESTBIKING ROADS.COM. A new ferry crossing to Normandy and very reasonable, LD LINES.COM.

I have joined the Motorcycle News forum and posted and some video clips user name Videobike. What a refreshing change to have some positive constructive feedback from a forum - Thanks ...

Oh, also booked a week off in September, going to Normandy to look at the World War 2 site and do some riding, 7 bikes in total.

Also new BLOG added, please feel free to contribute, available on a link on the home page.

MAY 2007

Just a few lines to let you know how things are going. I have just finished a two day assessment course, with the rider coming from South Wales. On the last day I planned a route through mid Wales, via Newtown and Crossgates. I finished the course at the traditional gateway to South Wales - Abergavenny. It meant me travelling an extra hour to get home, but it was worth it just for the fantastic roads.

During the Bank Holiday weekend I trained a rider from Chester - In otherwords, please give me a ring to discuss your training requirements - You may be nearer than you think

APRIL 2007

Advanced Motorcycle Training .Com will offering its support to the Andy Taft Charitable Trust in 2007 and beyond........

The Andy Taft Charitable Trust - (ATCT) - Registered Charity 1117584 has been in operation since 3 June 2006.  The trust was formed as a direct result of the devastating loss of life suffered by Andy Taft in a motorcycle accident in November 2005.  This tragedy had a huge impact on Andy's family, friends and colleagues who were determined to establish some form of lasting tribute to Andy. - You can also offer your support by visiting the web site at www.andytaft.org.uk

I had a phone call this month from a chap in Cheltenham, who wanted some training. A bit of a way from Staffordshire, but on Sunday 22nd I went down to meet him, just off junction 11 M5

To be honest it took me 2 hours travelling, and it was well worth it to experience the roads around the Cotswolds. So if any one wants training in that area, then I prepared to travel - Anywhere from Cheltenham north along the M5 corridor towards Birmingham.

New page added to web site Product Reviews - I have been supplied with some superb riding gear, courtesy of REV'IT

It is that time of year again...... Just a few words to all my clients from 2006 - Thank you for making 2006 an enjoyable and progressive year. The video production has been enhanced with new equipment and new courses have been tried. Clients having the ability to talk back on intercoms.

What to look forward to in 2007..........

The new PRESTIGE COURSE will be available and I will be doing some TOURS, with the focus being on offering Advanced Training as part of the experience. Oh almost forgot....New Web Site being designed, so some pages my be a bit different as you look throgh the site

August 2006
Yet another busy month, but this time catching up on DVD production following on from an Instructor refresher course I offered in July.  A great course which has produced some good footage for the next DVD.  What has been the difference this time, well the client had a camera on his motorcycle and with both of us having compatible intercoms we spoke to each other on the move, recording all the speech and footage on separate camcorders.  Something I will be looking at in 2007 as I have a couple of spare Autocom intercoms....

Well I have made Motorcycle News this week issue 23.8.2006 with an article by Alison Silcox, MCN News assistant, in the Expert Rider section, have a look, it is entitled 'The camera never lies'.  Many thanks Alison for the article.

July 2006
My apologies for not keeping you updated on the web site and courses.  Not enough hours in the day.  Things are moving on and I recently finished an Instructors course, with a difference.  We both had cameras fitted on the motorcycles and we talked to each other with bike to bike radios.  I managed to get some good camera footage and in a couple of months will put a new DVD together.

I have been getting a number if enquiries form overseas, so to support theses people I have linked a web page to my site.  You can see it at www.advancedmotorcycletraining.com/international.htm

June 2006

Have a look at this picture taken on 4th June at Whitchurch off the video camera.............We are turning right at a roundabout, the biker on the left, doesn't know we are even on the same piece of tarmac.  He or she is leading 2 other bikes, all turning without indication right from the left hand lane....  And we wonder why !

March 2006
Yes, they're back. Series 2 of The Hairy Bikers' Cookbook kicks off this Wednesday 29th March, at 8pm on BBC2. And this time the Boys are in Vietnam. Saigon's a foodie paradise, but two-wheeled chaos rules...Going with the traffic flow, Si and Dave cook shrimp & pork on sugar cane in the middle of a frenzied ferry landing, then chow down on Vietnam War fare: deep-fried scorpions, coconut worms, and a part of a goat that wouldn't make it onto most menus. Biking on up the coast, they discover the delicious national dish pho, and crispy Hué pancakes cooked in the street below the mysterious Cham towers. But by the time they reach Hoi An, we're down to one Hairy Biker; Si has broken his foot, which leaves Dave pedalling a very large Geordie around in a rickshaw.

How're they going to get to Hanoi, now that Si can't ride his motorbike?
And don't forget: The Hairy Bikers' Cookbook is published by Penguin on April 6th, and a DVD of Series 1 & 2 will be released on May 15th.
With best wishes

Well the new season for riding is nearly upon us and some brave soles are already out on the motorbikes.  I went out yesterday, Thursday 23rd March 2006 for the first time since November.  Nice to be out, but it brought it home to me the importance of adjusting to riding a motorcycle, following months of car driving.  Everything was a little bit quicker, more power there was a a need to judge your speed and acceleration sense.  My advice is TAKE YOUR TIME AND GET USED TO IT.

Having got the 'bug' again, why not try this excellent insurance company, E Bike -

Motorbike insurance from eBike Insurance

eBike insurance is a unique on-line motorcycle insurance product offering the customer 24/7 access and flexibility.  No other motorcycle insurance product is 100% on-line based, leaving the customer in total control to manage and amend their policy when they want.

Launched in April 2005, eBike is the fastest-growing motorcycle insurer in the country, filling a niche in the marketplace for the growing demand for on-line consumer products. Over 5,000 people entered the site in its first 4 days of trading and eBike now insures over 30,000 happy bikers nationwide.

The site features are unique, but highly user-friendly, with the ability to obtain comprehensive advice and a quote in under 5 minutes. The insurance product oozes style, flexibility and many new innovative features such as:
