A new Community Choir for Guildford

Directed by the energetic singer and conductor Anna Tabbush,
Guildford Vox began in November 2005 at the Guildford Institute.

Already enjoying a sizeable and enthusiastic membership, its repertoire consists of
contemporary and traditional song from the British Isles and around the world.
Unlike most choirs, all of the material is taught by ear - no dots whatsoever!

The Guildford Institute

THE GUILDFORD INSTITUTE

The Guildford Institute (originally the Guildford Mechanics Institute) was founded
in 1843 and has a members library dating back to the 19th century. It moved to its
present town centre home in 1892 and developed a range of social, cultural and
educational activities and runs a number of interesting courses. The Institute's
educational facilities are now enhanced by links with the University of Surrey,
which has been the trustee of the Institute's premises since 1982.
At lunchtimes, on weekdays in term time, excellent vegetarian lunches are are on sale
to the public and served in the Assembly Room and Ladies' Room.

The Guildford Institute entrance

The entrance to the Guildford Institute is in Ward Street.

The Guildford Institute is a no-smoking venue.

ACCESS FOR THE DISABLED

It was hoped that a lift would have been installed at the Institute by the time we opened
in November. We are sorry to hear that building work is not now scheduled to take place until
late November. Until then, unfortunately, the Assembly Room can only be accessed via a
winding staircase. We apologise for this and look forward to being able to announce
that the venue is accessible to the disabled before the end of 2005.
