  • DIRECTIONS

The most convenient and plentiful parking can be found in the Leapale Road
    multi-storey car park.
To get there, come off the roundabout (at the junction of Woodbridge Road and York Road)
onto Onslow Street (heading towards the town centre) in the left hand lane.
Turn left immediately, up Woodbridge Road, and keep straight on along Leapale Road.
The entrance to the multi-story is half way along Leapale Road on the left-hand side.
If you park on level 4 you can exit at street level into Haydon Place.

  • The Guildford Institute

    THE GUILDFORD INSTITUTE

The Guildford Institute (originally the Guildford Mechanics Institute) was founded
in 1843 and has a members library dating back to the 19th century. It moved to its
present town centre home in 1892 and developed a range of social, cultural and
educational activities and runs a number of interesting courses. The Institute's
educational facilities are now enhanced by links with the University of Surrey,
which has been the trustee of the Institute's premises since 1982.
At lunchtimes, on weekdays in term time, excellent vegetarian lunches are are
on sale to the public and served in the Assembly Room and Ladies' Room.

    The Guildford Institute entrance

The entrance to the Guildford Institute is in Ward Street. The
folk club meets on the first floor in the Assembly Room.

The Guildford Institute is a no-smoking venue.

  • ACCESS FOR THE DISABLED, THE BAR, RUNNING TIMES
    AND FLOOR SINGERS

Unfortunately, the Assembly Room can only be accessed via a winding staircase.
We apologise for this and hope that someday the Institute will be able to obtain
the necessary funding to upgrade the venue to make it accessible to the disabled.

The Institute is licensed to sell alcohol but can only run a limited bar service -
bottled beers and a small range of wines and spirits - plus tea and coffee.
The bar is open until 10.00pm.

We are required to finish the evening dead on 10.30pm and the building vacated before
11.00pm. This means that timings are tight. The doors open at 7.30pm and the music
kicks off very shortly after 8.00pm.

Please note that we usually only have time to fit in a couple of floorsingers. It is
best to phone in advance - 01483 871443 - to see whether a spot is available.

  • THE WEST SURREY FOLK CONSORTIUM

The Music Institute folk club and the GBH Ceilidhs are run by the not-for-profit
organisation "West Surrey Folk Consortium" (WSFC). The aims of objectives of
    the WSFC are as follows:

"The Consortium aims to encourage the enjoyment, appreciation and
performance of traditional and contemporary folk music, song and dance.
It aims to introduce contemporary roots-based music from these islands
and abroad to both established and new audiences and seeks to encourage
young performers and organisers to support the continuation of the
many forms of the traditional performing arts."

"THE MUSIC INSTITUTE" TICKETS AND DISCOUNT CARDS

The club has been well supported in its four-year existence and most of the
audience attend regularly. We therefore offer the opportunity for people to
purchase a discount card for just £3.00 (£5.00 for two people sharing the same
address) that entitles them to a reduction on the price of their ticket for a year
from September to the following August. This discount applies to all events
organised by the WSFC, i.e. both the folk club and the Godalming ceilidhs.

The club room can only accommodate 50 and we often sell out so, to help avoid
disappointment tickets will be available for purchase in advance.

Purchase your discount card and tickets on-line now!

If you would like to purchase tickets in advance please indicate how many you wish
to buy and at which prices (please quote membership number if applicable) and send
a stamped addressed envelope to 6 Dunsdon Avenue, Guildford, Surrey GU2 7NX.-

Although we are happy (!) to sell tickets in advance, for logistical reasons we
cannot reserve unpaid-for tickets, with one exception -
we will reserve tickets, to be paid for on the door, if applied for, by e-mail
(see below) or on 01483 871443, on the day of the performance. BUT please
do not set out before we get back to you to confirm ticket availability.

We shall try and keep our web site up to date with the number of tickets still available.

Finally - a big thank you to Ed Rennie for allowing us to initially use the name of his
club "The Good Old Way", which used to meet at The Freeholders, Farncombe.
The change of year brings a change of name - "The Music Institute". The new name is
meant to be all-embracing to encompass current and future musical ventures at the
Institute such as the Guildford Vox Community Choir.
