Legend has it that Kathryn Tickell decided to become
a full-time musician after appearing at the Farnham
Maltings - a decision music lovers all over the world
have never regretted
Kathryn is without a doubt the country's, probably
the world's, leading exponent of the Northumbrian
pipes and has been commissioned to write and perform
a new work at this year's Promenade Concerts at the
Royal Albert Hal1. She has recorded with Sting, Beth
Nielsen Chapman and The Penguin Cafe Orchestra as
well as being a regular accompanist on albums by
fellow folk musicians such as Martin Simpson, June
Tabor, The Chieftains and Oysterband.
Hardly surprisingly Kathryn's has gathered about
her musicians of equal flair and ability on their
chosen instrument for her band - Julian Sutton on
melodeon, Ian Stephenson on guitar and Peter
Tickell on fiddle - a line-up that has the unique
distinction of being the first group of traditional
musicians to have played at the Last Night of the
Proms celebrations at the Royal Albert Hall.
The concerts begins at 8.00pm.
