It was difficult to make any sense of the pattern as stitching progressed because, just like many original paintings, the overall picture can only be seen from a distance.

Making the wedding dress should have been quite straightforward. However, a sewing machine that could not cope with the task meant hours of hand-sewing on both the main dress and the ribbon edging.
