Judicael Strings is located in the old Piece (or Cloth) Hall in the old heart of the Yorkshire woollen
district. The building was first opened for
merchants to sell their cloth (hence 'Piece'
Hall) in 1779. In 1787 the 'room' which Judicael
Strings occupies was tenanted by a local
cloth merchant called Gamaliel Sutcliffe
- yet by 1881 the use of the building had
obviously changed as that year William Kennealy,
('egg and butter merchant') is recorded in
the census. A full list of tenants over the
years and a reasonable history can be found
here (opens in new window).
