Roses and Castles Traditional Boatman's Back Cabins Roses

Boatman’s cabins are probably one of the most enjoyable aspects of interior boat decoration.  Scumbled panels, painted mouldings, traditional swags of roses and intricate pictorials of castles are all expertly reproduced by Andy.

Andy believes strongly in keeping this traditional style of decoration alive.  A traditional castle should contain the elements of rich man's castle, a poor man's house, distant mountains, a river with a bridge, trees, a winding path, birds and some flags.  Andy believes these basic rules should be maintained and Narrowboats should be brush painted by hand and sign written traditionally. He maintains that vinyl letters are an abomination and should be abandoned if we are to keep these old crafts alive.

Swags of roses can enhance Narrowboats, some people love them, some hate them.  Andy’s style has developed over 16 years and he is happy that his roses stand in a class of their own individuality whilst still remaining traditional.
