copper mine ghost town now a thriving artist community up on Cleopatra Hill.
Tuzigoot National Monument (Clarkdale) - 13th century Sinagua Indian
pueblo
Verde Valley Railroad (Clarkdale) - Scenic out and back railroad trip
through the Verde Valley to Perkinsville.
Montezumas Castle I-17 Ancient Sinagua cliff dwelling 100 ft above
the valley.
Fort Verde I-17 Military fort and barracks used during the Indian campaign
against the Apache.
Prescott - 89. Rodeo town nicknamed 'everbodys
hometown' and home of Whiskey Row. Lots of history.
Lake Mary Road / Mormon Lake Lodge - Pleasant drive out and back to
Mormon Lake Lodge. Take a packed breakfast and park up over looking Lake Mary
(2nd lake) enjoy the early morning sunshine, look for wildlife.
Walnut Canyon - I-40 east of Flagstaff. Ancient cliff dwellings accessible
by a small loop path. Steep steps!
Meteor Crater - I-40 east of Flagstaff. Huge impact crater in desert
surroundings. Walk around space displays.
Sunset Crater / Wupatki National Monument - 89 north of Flagstaff.
Extinct volcano and ancient Indian dwelling accessed by a small loop road
off the 89.
Arizona / Utah border area: based in Page / Kanab:
Lake
Powell / Glen Canyon Dam - 89. Wonderful recreational area, take a cruise
through wild scenic landscape.
Antelope Canyon - hwy 98 east from
Page. A 'slot' canyon and incredibly beautiful when sunlight filters into
it. Best experienced with the sun at its zenith.
Horseshoe Bend - 89 around mile marker
545 just south of Page. An exceptional overlook of the Colorado, a short walk
to a breath taking view. Definitely a high 'wow' factor, best seen late afternoon
and its free!
Lees Ferry / Navajo Bridges - Historic
area in awesome surroundings. Original dwellings close by the Colorado River
also a recreational area, rafts and fishing. Take a break at the Navajo Bridge
Interpretive Center
Vermilion Cliffs area - 89 Nr Marble Canyon. Rugged landscape with
areas of 'standing' and 'balanced' boulders.
Southern Utah

formations. Wonderful !
Bryce Waterfall area - hwy 12. Short way beyond Bryce. Evening strolls
along a small creek in Bryce like surroundings. After descent to the valley
look for sign and pull in on your right. Great photo opportunities.
Kodakchrome Basin - hwy 12. 9 miles south of Cannonville,
unique rock formations assessable by dirt roads.
Cedar Breaks - hwy 148 vivid limestone formations along the Colorado
Plateau atop the Grand Staircase.
Brian Head Peak / Alpine Pond Trail / Navajo
Lake - hwy 142 / 148 / 14 pleasant 'stop and explore' areas,
magnificent Aspen foliage in the Fall (Autumn).
Coral Pink Sand Dunes. 89 short journey north from Kanab. Desert sand
duned landscape often used as a movie
background. Early morning and late evening sun intensifies the colors and
lengthening shadows give a dramatic
effect. A pleasant area to stop and explore / barbecue & recreational
grounds.
Grand Staircase Escalante Nearly 1.9 million
acres crammed with trails and magnificent natural attractions.
( hwy 89 - hwy 12) from lush
green valleys to desolate wilderness. Easy trails like Calf Creek to
trails for the serious hiker only.
