Just
a short drive from Bryce Canyon takes you up over Brian Head Peak, the pines
in this area have been devastated by the Bark beetle, spoiling a marvelous
landscape. There is a vast area of dead trees, the savior is the Aspen tree
and a few other varieties that are not attacked by the beetle. Late September
brings a glorious tapestry of yellow, gold, copper through to red as the leaves
turn color. A wonderful spectacle to take in during a casual drive along the
143 or 14 from the 89. Likewise the meadowland road (67) leading to the North
Rim of Grand Canyon, no significant signs of the dreaded beetle here. The
vivid Fall colors are contrasted against the dark green of the pine forest.
A vacation bonus. Enjoy !
